My son is called John - when I was a kid there were thousands of Johns (there were three in my class at secondary school). Yet now, my son is the only John in his school. That's quite a turnaround.

One place you do still hear the really old fashioned names is in the Irish traveller community.

There's plenty of traveller girls with names like Bridget, or boys called Albert/Albie, Francis or Frank.
