errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Begging the question of the thread.

"The same sport, the same discipline therein, (no 3 batsmen and a bowler), at the same time. "
Sorry I didn't read the question correctly....Marshall, Holding, Bishop and Garner.

Not as good at gymnastics as Comaneci or swimming as Spitz but those boys could bowl a bit.

I'm off to the pub.

Someone else can take over the reins of this, obviously challenging thread.

I don't understand your confusion here. Football, four goalkeepers, Yashin 1950-70, Banks 1955-77, Jennings 1963-86 and Shilton 1966-97. All overlap within one era Begin there?
Those four weren't simultaneously the greatest.

What about Jennings, Shilton, Zoff, Clemance? (Clem does seem a little 'light', but that more to do with my lack of knowledge)

Miguel Indurain, Lance Armstrong, Erik Zabel, Jan Ulrich.

Plus a big dose of EPO.

Naturally I was trying to think of a cycling one.
Lance Pantani Ulrich ?
Or Zabel, Cipollini, ? ?

Five Live are currently running a retrospective of this:-

25 years since Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard locked horns at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas in their $26 million Super Fight, 5 live Boxing looks back at a truly great era in the ring. Mike Costello and Steve Bunce also remember some of the other great boxers of the time, including Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran and discuss some of the most explosive, contentious and memorable fights in the history of the sport

Begging the question of the thread.

The same sport, the same discipline therein, (no 3 batsmen and a bowler), at the same time.

Duran was the greatest lightweight of all time a decade earlier so different discipline and different times (unless you count all four winning titles at 4 or 5 different weights at different times over 20 years)

It was a very compelling show, I'm a bit gutted I missed the start, but well worth a catch up, on i-player.

They did mention Duran starting in light weight.
But the point is any one of those 4 would have reigned supreme, if the others weren't there.
To have 4 of the all time worlds greatest, all at the same time, in the same discipline, is quite something.

It seems only to be matched by cricket all rounders and F1 drivers.
