Er....the iPhone won't be available on a European network until the autumn so it's a pretty useless piece of gadgetry until then.

What are you going to do until then ... wank with it?

I would imagine that, despite it being useless until Autumn as you said, he had to have one ASAP in the hope that people would be impressed/jealous of his having such a piece of equipment.

Dwayne strikes me as the kind of person who always has to act as if he's superior to others, constantly going on about what designer label clothes he wears, what fancy gadgets he owns and who he counts as friends.

Probably a very shallow person in reality, trying to hide his insecurities behind a front.

Bemoan the fact that not only has he bought a fairly poor excuse for a smartphone, but that he's got a 1st generation Apple product to boot?

So, you've bought yourself an obsolete piece of technology - a 2.5G handset with no MMS and no true smartphone capabilities. That doesn't work in the country you live in.

Congratulations :dunce:

REDLAND - how is a non smartphone going to "knock any smartphone in to touch"? You know that a "smartphone" has to be able to run third-party applications, which the iPhone, well, can't?

These phones look excellent, but is it just a case of buying it and then thinking do I really need this?

I have done this a couple of times now.
I bought a PDA, becuase I wanted to stay organised, but I still ended up using paper, it is quicker to write things down and put it in a folder
Then I went out and bought an XBOX 360 again did not get time to play it, games to expensive as well.

However what does the iphone give you that others don't?
Does it really make your life easier?
Will you ever use all the features?

No, he's announced it will run web widgets - these are not applications. You cannot write an application for it, only a widget that will run inside Safari. It hasn't even got Java 2ME application support, which my 3410 had 5 years ago!

I think I'm alone in wanting a phone that is small, manageable and makes and receives calls - FINISH

Thats not going to change anything I said - Dashboard widgets are just that - WIDGETS. Not applications. They are highly limited in what they can do, and anything complex is extremely, extremely hard to programme and liable to be buggy as hell, and extremely insecure.

Applications interface with the OS, widgets interface with a widget engine. The iPhone does not support third party applications, simple as.
