My love for pop music began with the launch of Radio 1. Before that, we didn't have a record player, and there really wasn't much to listen to. I'm not even sure what my dad liked, apart from Johnny Cash and Mireille Mathieu.

Dire Staits, Kinks, Carpenters, 10CC, The Stranglers, Buddy Holly, Wings and all that. Pretty good education really. Has no noticeable influence but the standards were set high hence I abhor the likes of Keane and Coldplay who I find extremely dreary.

My Dad was a Big Band man, loved "old time " dancing,Glen Miller and such.Course,he's been gone a long while, and we only had a wind up gramaphone in his day.He was the bloke who got to the pub before they turned the juke box on and surreptitiously damaged the wiring, the one who told me "modern" songs were gibberish whilst he'd sing "Little lamsey divey".

I did like "Pennies from Heaven" the show on TV years back, but I wouldn't say my Dad had any influence on my musical taste and regarded Bob Dylan as little more than a busker.
