Until I met Mrs P my entire idea of reggae was based on UB40, and I hated it. She however, is a massive fan and has slowly but surely indoctrinated me over the last 16 years.

UB40 are rubbish so no surprise you didn't like it.

Never appreciated what a great songwriter he is until about four years ago. "She" was in the charts when I was a kid but at that age it wasn't my thing. Then years later I heard it and realised what a fantastic song it is so I decided to research his back catalogue. Well worth a visit. Really poignant and poetic lyrically as is the tradition with many French songwriters

UB40 are rubbish so no surprise you didn't like it.

100% agree with you in relation to anything made after Present Arms and Signing Off. Their best years were from 79 to 82. UB44 was the first sign of worry, Labour of Love was the first nail in the coffin, the rest is a sad history.
