Anyone who isn’t flawed, won’t be on this earth but sitting on a cloud with JC and his Dad.

Apologies if I offended any fellow NSCers yesterday with my original RIP thread, allegedly when we cross the rainbow bridge we all get forgiven for our sins on earth, so technically old Phil should now be resting in a better place.

‘Old Phil’. ??? You’re better than that Ian. Do you refer to Peter Sutcliffe as ‘Old Pete’ or Jeremy Bamber as ‘Old Jezza’ ?

Flawed is one way to put it.

Not sure he deserves a commemorative thread.

Let alone two!

I presume that Harty's thread has been consigned to the bear pit. It may be best to keep this thread alive for a few days or else someone else will start another one.

In other news, Mussolini was a bit of a facist murderer, but he got the trains to run on time, and for that we should be grateful every time we board the intercity from Milan to Naples.

Gary Glitter may have been a paedophile but Rock and Roll part 2 is a real classic, isn't it?

Jimmy Savile may have been a rapist and paedophile, but he fixed things for so many people, and you have to respect that, don't you?

Where has the original Phil Spector RIP thread gone?

As the OP I asked to have it taken down, because I'd clearly misread the situation, for which I have already apologised.

Unfortunately he was a tormented genius, who had a dark side which had shattering consequences.

Did anybody else see the film about his trial? He was brilliantly portrayed by Al Pacino. That film may have been one sided but it cast serious doubts on his guilt . That was due to forensic evidence and blood splatter patterns which ,they say, showed the death could not have happened the way the prosecution alleged.

Whatever, I know that he was a complete basket case and a violent ,controlling person. However, he is not the only creative master to have mental problems. I believe he must first be remembered for the wonderful music and the records he gave us, music that thrilled us in our youth.

I still say , unapologetically, Phil Spector RIP .

I'd say he spent his life as a bullying, murderous gun nut.
He also had a creative side that made some very good music 60 odd years ago

Further thoughts if I may. People are more concerned about his bad character than his musical accomplishments.
I just wonder , if a truly world class footballer had the same experiences would we be talking about his abilities or his shortcomings?
I give you a name, Maradona. He too was known to shoot guns at people as well as well documented drug use. I get that he was not convicted of murder but he was still a s*** person . When he died recently he received more fond memories of his skill in the game than criticism for his shortcomings as a human being.

'Flawed' and 'shortcomings' - I like the way some people portray a murdering, serial abusing scumbag (and that should be the headline for the thread.

Maradona engaged in violence against his partner - irrespective of footballing accomplishments and (from my perspective) his left-leaning politics - Maradona was an abuser of women.

Geez - I had no intention of causing a problem and regret doing so - I apologise. I hadn’t seen a previous thread had been started and quickly withdrawn. When I saw the headline that he’d died I was just commenting on the music and his influence there - without thought to the other side of his character. I do usually reflect before I post - I’ll go back to that way in future.
