Hugely important batsman for Sussex, Mushy took the wickets but Muzza made the runs for those 3 championships. 
However it was sadly at least a season too far and I don't think any other Counties will be knocking on his door at this stage.
The 'Adams Era' Sussex is now almost all gone, a real golden age when you look at the last 10 years, I don't think we will approach that level of success for a long time.

After 12 seasons with the Club, Sussex CCC have today announced that Murray Goodwin will not be returning to The PROBIZ County Ground for the 2013 season.
Lauded as one of the finest batsman in domestic cricket over the last decade, Goodwin’s Sussex career has been littered with achievement with his sheer volume of runs being a major factor in the Club’s decade of success. Goodwin was part of the team which won the County Championship in 2003, 2006, and 2007, the C & G Trophy in 2006, and the Pro40 in 2008 and 2009, along with the Twenty20 Cup – also in 2009 – to complete a full sweep.
With over 24,000 runs for Sussex in all formats, including nearly 14,500 first class runs with 48 centuries and an average approaching 50, Goodwin has been a genuine Sussex legend. With two triple centuries, as well as scoring the runs which won the County’s first Championship in 2003, and hitting a six off the final ball of the match to secure the 2008 Pro40, there have been many individual highlights to the career, though first and foremost, Murray has been a great team man, and a fierce competitor.
Speaking today, Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said: “Murray is arguably the best ever batsman Sussex have had and he will be greatly missed and not only on the pitch, but in the dressing room as well by all those he has helped and supported in his time at the Club. I would like to thank Murray for the help he has given me, and the great service he has given to this Club, and wish him, Tarsh, Jaydon and Ashton all the very best for the future.”
Murray Goodwin added, “It deeply saddens me that I have to leave Sussex at the end of the season. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 12 years at Sussex, my family have loved every year here, and we feel so privileged to have been associated with this wonderful Club. Our boys have spent half their childhoods here and we feel they have been exposed to the very best of British life, in all its capacities.
"To the coaches, support staff and most of all, my wonderful team mates that I have been blessed to play alongside over the years, it has been an honour and privilege to have had so much success in winning trophies for ourselves and the club. I feel so humbled to be a part of such a wonderful team, club and ethos and offer huge thanks to so many wonderful sponsors and supporters. We are extremely grateful for your loyal friendship and support. I would also offer particular thanks to the best bat makers at Newbery, whose bats have been a major factor in enabling me to achieve success.
"And finally, myself, Tarsh and the boys offer a heartfelt thanks to our many wonderful friends, our family and our support network. We feel your love and support and will always appreciate it.”

All the best Murray, its been a pleasure watching you over the years. A wonderfully elegant and destructive batsman when on top form.
I agree that Mushy and Murray played a huge part in Sussex winning those elusive Championships and placing Sussex at the top of County cricket in most formats through the
mid-2000s. That was a golden era and one we were privileged to witness. Good luck to him in whatever Murray does next.
On the plus side this creates an opportunity for someone else. We will do well to ever sign such a consistently good batsman in the future although I do hope Sussex use the opportunity to develop a youngster, maybe Wells although he has a way to go just yet?

So this could be our last chance to see the master at work. Has to be the best batsman I have ever watched, he makes it look easy. His runs won us the title as they set targets that let Mushy just bowl sides out.
He will be irreplaceable, shame he lives in Australia as I imagine we may not see him much and he won't be involved coaching our youngsters.

Will be sadly missed next season. One of the true Greats to ever grace Hove. The 300 tonnes he made, will live long in everybody memories. I wonder if we will now sign a specialist Batsman in the close season.

maybe the club can keep him on in some role, perhaps helping the youngsters with their drinking?
