Murray cannot take penaltys

From my view it looked to be quite a good save but at a decent height for the keeper. Could be wrong though. Sparrow looked like he wanted the ball but Murray went over his head

Murray is quality but I must agree, he is AWFUL at pens. He has missed a fair few but even the ones he has scored have been poorl. Watch the pen at Leeds he scored last year for a start.

I would hand the job over to someone else too.

At times Murray looks head and shoulders above the rest of the players at this level, and against better sides like Man City and Villa he's looked more than capable. Its just his consistency thats the problem, and he doesn't seem to be interested all the time.

When ever Murray seems to take a penalty the keeper always gets a good hand on it. I think Bennett or Sparrow should take them.

Away at Leeds when he scored - he appeared to scuff it.

He does not look a natural penalty taker to me. I suspect there must be someone better at the club.

I'd go further, he doesnt seem a natural striker of the ball overall, which sounds mad given he is a striker. The amount of shots he scuffs or mishits is ridiculous. Shinned a couple tonight and missed a pen. I love the man, dont get me wrong, but he doesnt really look like scoring at the moment.

As for Barnes' miss

50% is not nearly good enough when the national average miss rate is about 10%.

Is it 50% or is it 50% out of the last six kicks?

Also, your 10% figure is crap. According to Michael Bar-Elia in "Penalty kicks in soccer: an empirical analysis of shooting strategies and goalkeepers preferences", a major study of this, the success rate for professional footballers in Italy, UK and Germany ranges betweem 75 and 85%. PremierSoccer stats backs this up with their study of the Premier league in 2002. They also suggest that 25% of penalties fail.

Or put it another way, many professional footballers have a miss rate of 25%. Do you actually know how many kicks Murray has taken in his career and how many he has missed? My guess is that he'll be as good or bad as anyone else.

Interestingly, other studies indicate that younger players are more accurate than older ones.

That's right. The keeper always gets a hand to it. Your are a miserable sod aren't you.

Well i at least expect us to play with some passion and desire when i pay money to see us.

Murrays took about 5/6 penalties for us i think.

Yeovil - Keeper basically pushed it in.

Millwall - Saved

Gillingham - Saved

Tonight - Saved

Tranmere- Scored

Leeds - Scored

I have no empirical evidence for this but I always expect Murray to miss penalties. He does not strike the ball hard enough to beat the 'keeper on a regular basis. He always gives them a chance to save it, if they go the right way. Time for a new penalty taker in my opinion.

Because by my estimation (I stand to be corrected but I wont be far off) he has missed half of the penaltys he has taken in competitive games. He simply hits them as hard as he can at a perfect height for the keeper. 50% is not nearly good enough when the national average miss rate is about 10%.

That's 1 in 2, Murray is a 1 in 2 player after all!
