Under Poyet we will not play 442 in it's conventional form. If we were to sign another striker then maybe you would see a lop sided midfield of Kish navarro sparrow and Bennett with the new forward and Murray. However I think if pre season is anything to go by Gus likes 4-5-1 which morphs into 4-3-3 when attacking or playing at home.

I'm affraid Casper was at fault for there goal.He should have palmed it completely away from the area. It had a touch of Henderson about it.

Unfortunately that is a trend which is becoming more prevalent at all levels, even Van Der Sar against Chelsea although the shot he had to deal with was hit harder

In rehab
it didnt help that Painter shinned the ball back across our 6 yard box for Austin to tap it in
If he palmed it away properly that wouldn't have happened.

Is't it that we play 4-5-1 when defending and that morphs into 4-3-3 when we go on the attack with the wongers become part of the front line?

Not when I have seen us play.

Last season Bennett and Lualua were very much wingers who would try to supply balls into the box. All the goals Bennett scored were from a central midfield position after he had cut inside.

On Saturday Smith set up both of Sparrows goals from a wide position.

So 4-5-1 doesn't seem to morph into a 4-3-3 as our wingers always stay as wingers and never put themselves into an attacking position that a striker would

.................2 people to blame if we have to play that particular game but let's not :albion2:

Isn't there a third, in the person who played the ball back exposing casper?

Perhaps we can add Austin to the list if you believe he played for the free kick (as casper claims, and as the commentators suggested) or perhaps the referee for giving the freekick (if it shouldn't have been one).

There were also a couple of our players the ball rolled past after it left Painter's shin.

With so many people to blame it is simply easier to blame the keeper, who palmed it to the feet of a team mate.

4-3-3 doesn't mean you play with three CENTRE FORWARDS!

At home it is very much 3 attackers. Lualua for one, is nothing BUT an attacker. Too much so at times.

Oh, and as for "Smith set up both of Sparrows goals from a wide position"..
Smith was stood ON the centre spot, when he played in Sparrow for the second!

You don't make someone captain and not play them. Similarly, you don't sit a classy striker on the bench while Ashley Barnes is looking out of his depth on the pitch.

Both will be in on Saturday.

Apart from the part about Barnes being out of his depth, THIS.

Watch the goal again!

Sparrow was on the centre spot when he played it out to the right to Smith, admittedly he wasn't hugging the touchline but as I said they play as wingers and don't head into the box like a Striker would.

4-3-3 does mean exactly that. 3 strikers/forwards on the pitch who are looking to make runs into the box to find a goal scoring position.

E.g Barcelona - Henry - Ibrahimovic - Messi
