In the article announcing the signing of Ankergren, one of the gus quotes sounded very much like he saw ankergren as number one, with brezovan pressuring him for the spot.

Feel sure that one of the provisos to him signing, was that he would be our number one keeper.

Another poster on here insisted he had given that proviso to Brezovan too. Guess we'll be starting with two keepers.

Or, y'know, guaranteed starts in contracts is nonsense, and players are picked on who is performing best/has the manager's confidence most.

Greer will definitely be in as he has been appointed the club captain, even though this will be hard on Adam who had a great game at Swindon.

Barnes tried really hard, but only gaot away from their centre half on one occasion and clearly needs more support up front with him. Plays better a little awayu from the centre as his goals show.

Murray can play alone and will score.

Brez will be back when fit. Ankergren did drop the ball twice, including for their goal, so is not perfect.

I think having an awesome central midfield could actually be detremental to us if Gus insists on playing 3 in the middle (Navarro, Kish & Sparrow) just because we have the players.
For me, on Saturday we have to be looking at 4-4-2 with Kish dropping to the bench to enable Murray to give Barnes some support upfront.
Greer will probably come back in on Saturday too in place of El-Abd. Being club captain probably helps his situation.

I have no problems playing 3 in the middle and 1 up top when away from home though.

Not sure why people think we'll play two up front at home.

4-3-3 home and away, methinks.

Either you are counting Bennett and Smith as forwards (1 upfront with the 2 of them supporting attackers on the wing) or you propose playing ALL 3 of our strikers upfront?

Why the need to play Barnes though? We know that Murray excels up top on his own, in a 4-5-1 with Murray we can win the midfield battle and score a few.

Murray [or Barnes], wih support from the wings, yes. Bennett and [hopefully] Lualua ARE forward players.

Call me old fashioned but I do like the 4-4-2 system.
Bennett gets forward enough but I don't feel we have anyone good enough at going forward on the other wing to make it work.
In a perfect world I would like to see:
DMF: Navarro
MC: Sparrow (with Navarro holding infront of the back 4 gives Sparrow the license to get forward a bit more)
LM: Lua-lua...?
RM: Bennett

F: Barnes (hold ball up)
S: Murray

Gus said that Greer is likely to be one of the only players that walks into the team, because of all the effort we went through to get him in. Suggests to me he will start saturday, but not sure who would be dropped from the other two, Elphick is more mobile so compliments Greer well, but looks more prone to mistakes than El abd at the moment, who Gus said was our best defender.
Would think Murray will start, whether its 4-5-1 or 4-4-2, as Barnes is not good enough on his own.
Casper did well enough on saturday, was unlucky with the goal as it was a smart save, and it would destroy his confidence to drop him after 1/2 games, which isnt what we need.

We have never played 4-3-3 under Gus so why would we suddenly start?
Gus has played a 4-5-1 formation a lot as the extra midfielders help to retain possession but don't kid yourself that it is a flair formation with 3 attackers

I hope we see something like this on Saturday against a newly promoted side at home

Is't it that we play 4-5-1 when defending and that morphs into 4-3-3 when we go on the attack with the wongers become part of the front line?

I'm affraid Casper was at fault for there goal.He should have palmed it completely away from the area. It had a touch of Henderson about it.
