The Championship.
Has this man earned legendary status yet or is he not even close until we get into the Premier League?

As everyone knows Gus has done a BRILLIANT job since he took over, changing the way we play, cruising us to the League One title and securing a decent place in the league last season whilst attracting very good players to the club.

Would you rank him as the best ever Albion manager or is there still a bit to go?!

He has clearly identified the weaknesses from last season and so far seems to have got the right players to rectify this. If he gets us to the Premier League within the next couple of seasons, then yes he will be our greatest ever manager. At the moment that honour is still with Alan Mullery (first time round) IMHO.

Getting to the Prem and staying there is what's needed

If he gets us into the top half of the Prem and keeps us there, I'd say he'd be in the top 2. The other being AM

Nice polarised poll options there.

In terms of best I am sure you will have different opinions from people of different eras. I spose you have to look at what they've achieved for the club rather than the best one, for example I'd say Coppell was probably the 'best' manager but ultimately didn't achieve a huge amount for us. For me (a bit too young to remember the good parts of Barry Lloyd's era), it would be between Poyet, Adams and Liam Brady. Brady steadied a sinking ship (for a while), got people a bit re-motivated about the Albion and played a big role in the takeover. Adams turned us from a bottom of League 2 side to a Championship/League 1 yoyo side.

Poyet has had a LOT more to work with than any other manager, even when we were still at Withdean, but he has gotten it right. We were always going into the new stadium but we weren't always going to be selling out every game and pushing to be a Premiership club, so in terms of what he has achieved for the club (which will last after he eventually leaves), then my answer is yes, yes he is.

I wouldn't even put Poyet in the top 5.

Apart from the obvious Mullery, and Peter Taylor who built the side Mullery got promoted, I'd place Coppell, Cattlin, and Barry Lloyd above Poyet, when you consider whay they done with what they had.

If our end of season league form continues over into this season, then Poyet will be sacked by the end of September.

He's built a great squad, but until he plays to its strengths, then he's miles away from earning legendary status.

This squad is good enough to finish in the top 5. I have doubts the manager is good enough to get them there.

Poyet has the potential to be the greatest. At the moment I'd still rate Mark McGhee above him (but not as the best). He got us promoted and stayed up on a tiny budget. Poyet's done the same but with a much bigger budget.

You're a hard man Mr Burns. Poyet is learning all the time and hadn't managed in the Championship before last August. I think we will do well this season, injuries permitting. I would put him in the top 3 so far as he learns very quickly when he makes mistakes and puts them right.

Gus has got us promoted from League 1 and kept us in the Championship. This is the same as Mullery, Lloyd and McGhee. The latter two did it on a shoestring budget.

There is a case for saying he has not yet done as much as Steve Gritt too. Under Mike Bailey we had league victories over Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, and went (very very briefly) to fifth in the top division.

I think Gus has a lot of potential, and is fantastic copy, but to call him the greatest shows alarming short-termism.

You'd have to say Barry Lloyd is up there considering his transfer budget was 5 pence and half a Curly Wurly.

I know Lloyd got us to the play off final, but he signed a few donkeys as well as a few heroes. I know Gus has signed a couple of questionable players, but I would say Gus is a far better manager/coach purely for the way he has got the the team to play and find the new players to compliment that style.

Well my vote rests somewhere in-between 'He's a god' and 'He's a ****' which seem to be the only 2 options available in this Poll.

To anyone who has watched the Albion within the last 10/20 years then Gus will be our best manager & rightly so.

For us who have longer memories, I say no.

Get us into the top flight keep us there & then yes, he will be the best.

Mr Mullery, Catlin, Bailey & Meolia are in my opinion ahead.

This. If it were available, I'd have voted for 'Not yet'.

Can't help but think of Melia as a 'novelty manager'. Cup run was a hell of a ride, but he was pretty crap as a manger. No way I'd put him in with the other 3.
