Sarah Wollaston? Not so much. For her it seems to be all about Brexit. Pretty sure there will be as many splits over Brexit as there would be in any group of adults. No mention whatsoever of any bigger picture.

Remain is the true underlying cause.

Too soon for an overall picture, they’re just 11 MP’s totally disatisfied over Brexit, variously; anti semitism, local party bullying, polarisation.

If they get enough defectors and then finance, perhaps that comes later.

One thing is for sure, as with all things Brexit, they will be sure to find disagreement within their ranks in a very short time.

I thought he simply kept a promise to the huge swathes of the UK against our membership of the EU. In the same way that some European nations had held referenda on the EU.

Not the catalyst - it is their common bond. They are all dedicated to making sure Brexit doesn't happen and the referendum is overturned, by any means, fair or foul.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that.

Yes indeed, in effect vote buying, in which Cameron never believed that the British people would vote leave.

Did you really expect anything other than 'bollocks to brexit'? They are a one agenda group.

Disagree. As others have said, it's certainly the catalyst but whatever your views are on Brexit, it's fairly universally acknowledged that:
a) the Tory party have made a mess of Brexit
b) the government IS being bullied by the ERG, who are a small pressure group and are wielding far too much power
c) Labour are doing an absolutely shit job of holding the government to account.

Shit shit shit shit SHIT :shit:

If everyone was doing their jobs properly, Brexit would be in the process of being delivered by the right people and who would then be held to account properly. Instead we have an incompetent, gutless remainer too scared to face up to the extremists now infecting her party, and an opposition too feeble to act as proper opposition to it all.

The whole country can see how useless the two main parties are - hats off to these 11 people for doing the right thing rather than keeping quiet for the sake of their own cosy careers.

Really hope they're not.

dont see any other issue, except the antisemitism in Labour. and being against Corbyn, does that count? doesn't look like a foundation for a new party many are hoping for.

I have a lot of sympathy with some of them especially Luciana Berger and her reasons for jumping ship but it is true they are all staunch Remain MP's who strongly disagree with the manifestos they were elected on .. enacting Brexit. Also a bit ironic that they support another referendum because 'circumstances have changed' but don't believe they should face the electorate despite reneging on the manifesto commitment and party ticket they were elected on. In contrast, the two Tory MP's who jumped ship to join UKIP in 2014 both had to face their electorates in by elections.

We vote for individuals? Cloud cuckoo land! We vote for the candidate who represents the party we want to see in Government, pretty much regardless of whether or not we like the individual (or whether we know anything about them at all, other than that they're the Labour/Tory/Lib Dem party candidate).

Well we try too, but we might as well accept we vote for individuals. We wouldn't have all these Independent MP's if we voted for parties - and I don't mean just those which have left their party but those who stand as Independents. Basically the ability to vote a dodgy individual out of parliament or to vote for independents are given as the main reasons for persisting with the FPTP system. If we vote for a party, then we should just have party lists and a PR system, which would be a much more representative type of parliament.

Wollaston is being the most honest, for all this lot it’s all about reversing BREXIT. Let’s be clear minded about this, there is a sizeable cohort of other Labour/Tory MPs that feel exactly the same way, and it’s simply whether they have the cojones to walk out of their respective party structures.

In the meantime there is a group of labour MPs that have been opposed to Tory policies for decades who have now jumped into bed with the Tories, and a group of pro EU MPs that have always expressed a view that you don’t change the EU by leaving that have now left their political parties having been in them (and owing their political career to them) for decade because they can’t change them.

Excellent endorsement of the Brexit vote....after all leave means leave!

It wouldn’t be ‘cloud cuckoo land’ if the party membership of the candidate wasn’t printed on the ballot slip.

A Labour leader such as David Milliband or Yvette cooper would be so far ahead in the polls they would get a nosebleed.

Almost every Labour leader gets judged as making the Labour Party unelectable. There has been a long tradition of smearing the current leadership, Foot, Kinnock, and Ed Milliband have all been told they have made the party unelectable. Tony Benn managed it without being elected leader even though many people thought he spoke sense.

David Milliband and Yvette Cooper would soon get the same treatment if they became leader.

The amazing con trick in society is that the Establishment manages to convince a majority of the electorate to vote against a party created in their interests time after time.
