Just noticed that there was a bit of a binfest in here. Seems to have fizzled out though. Shame. Always late to the party

Fact of the matter is that it depends where you've come from, really:
If you've lived in Blackpool, Crawley or Croydon, Seaford is like Heaven on Earth.
If you're from Haywards Heath, it's probably about right.
If you're from Brighton, London, Manchester etc etc (or under 30) it's going to bore you to tears.

Still, it's about a billion times nicer than Newhaven...

Now you listen hear mr total silly bo....cks , what is wrong with Newhaven? I used to live in Whitehawk 15 years ago so to me it's like living in St Tropez!
Also have you seen our new rubbish tip( sorry recyle centre) we also have a KFC, McDonalds and a Lidl.
Enoy looking for a parking space( if you drive) in Hove!

interesting thread....i reckon when i settle down with kids etc. i'd probably leave brighton for somewhere else in sussex. Would need, however:

-good access to brighton
-not too chavvy
-SOME stuff to do
-near the sea
-not too expensive

seaford sounds like a decent shout and ticks most of the boxes

Orange County. California.
Positives about the Ford:
Good range of pubs and eateries.
Quiet town with the minimum shops needed to survive.
Unreal views either side of the Head, from Hope Gap to Tidemills.
Forest, Beach and countryside surrounds the town.
Complete range of housing options.
Good place to be in a force 8 Westerly if you like water sports.
When it snows, the 18th hole is something to experience.

Negatives about the Ford:
Lack of pubs along the front. Used to be 4, now zero.
Charity shops in the town that have replaced the grocers/butchers/small businesses.
Parking on Broad Street.
Bad place to be in a force 8 Westerly if you like do not like water sports.
The magnetic draw of the Trek....wrong, just wrong...especially Yvone's memory for remembering why she banned you many times in the late 80's.

:whisky:Brilliant post So.CalGull, all spot on, i cant believe nobody has mentioned the Trek club,
I have been totally hammered in this place so many times , used to go in the Duke(John Silver) and people would ask me if i was going to the Trek sometimes i would say no but when the pub closed a very strange force would happen outside in Dane Rd and next minute i was in the Trek .
Very happy days.l

I am not sure if I am proud or saddened by my achievement, of not once, but many times over the late 80's/90's of managing to be in the Trek on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. The four nighter would only happen over a bank holiday weekend.

And let's not forget that it's home to the South Coast Triathalon, one of the biggest in the country.

Not interesting at all, someone did reply to him #28 and we didnt hear any more, but read her post #50 ,
I think she deserved a reply to this nonsense, then she tried to backtrack , anyway read it all for yourself and then tell me im wrong.

Not interesting as to who may be "right" and "wrong" but interesting following a brief conversation I had with a young female poster on NSC who rarely posted due to the reaction to her posts. Most of the replies (including yours) may have been fair enough - but I wonder would there have been the same number and tone had she posted as OAPGull for example.

Anyway, that is why it is interesting. To me, if not to you. MissGull seems well able to look after herself (and may not even be a herself for all I know).

If you're trying to suggest that NSC rounds on females more than males you're completely misguided. I'd suggest the top 5 posters who regularly get a robust reply to their posts are male and the response is due to the post and little else. As for OAPs, BensGrandad gets a fair bit of stick. I think NSC is fairly democratic when it comes to abuse :lolol:

I am not making a big thing about this thread. MissGull made the observation, and I thought it interesting as it resonated with what I had previously been told, and explained my thinking when picked up on it.

Whether NSC reacts differently to female posters - well, we will probably get a truer story from those posters themselves rather than the perspective of middle-aged men.

Missgull made an inflammatory comment and then tried to back down by saying it was a generalization. She also made a ridiculous comment about the way the name of Seaford should be pronounced. Both comments were a needless slight on the people of the town and both were made in an attempt to portray the people of Seaford as snobs. Whether she is a she or a he, has no bearing upon whether people were upset by her comments and therefore people refuting them was not sexist.

Agree with this, very fair comments.
