I don't agree with all of those

I think most newspaper style guides would have "judgment" rather than "judgement" - even in the UK

And I think "mediaeval" is a bit archaic now - even in Merrie England.

For an article that's keen to highlight the differences between the US and the UK it doesn't mention the British spelling of "licence"

It doesn't include "necessary" either, which makes it suspect.

Wikipaedia is no help at all.

The Old Farts thread has just reminded me of another - "program" (as in what's on TV).

I think the fact that British English has separate words for programme and program (as in computer) is one of the examples of how decent spelling can actually help improve understanding.

Would some clever dick explain why I apply for a Television Licence at TV Licensing. As I only have a Secondary School education and it was a long time ago. Thank you in advance.

The noun is spelled licence, the verb is to license.

I have no idea why this should be so - the Americans use one spelling, license

We do the same thing with practice/practise

I prefer misspelt to misspelled personally, are they both correct?
