Mark Kozelek has this area pretty well covered. Not his best tune by miles, but fits the bill lyrically.

Good choice. I bought the album from Virgin in Brighton as a morose teenager and it is all relentlessly bleak.

Ironically some of the songs on his posthumous album were pretty upbeat, being fairly clean helped...well, til the suicide anyway.
'Fairly clean'? His biography charts a long descent into a cocktail of drugs, punctuated by occasional attempts to dig himself out of this. The last song on that album, A Distorted Reality is a Necessity to be Free (which is one of the finest around), has the wonderful line: "My momma says stay clean, there's no in between". It was obviously on his mind.
This can't go into a 7th page without Joy Division either...
