Following your team can bring so much misery & football has a habit of kicking you in the goolies. yet, we love the game because it also has the ability, when there's no hope, to suddenly turns things around and give you that magic high.

And so it was in our 1st season in the top flight. It was always going to be tough but, after 3-4 years of being a successful club, a winning team & massive support, we were struggling out of our depth amoung the big boys, both on the pitch & on the terraces.

I think it was october and we were bottom of the League. We had just lost 4-0 at highbury in the League cup and it was one of the most inept displays by an Albion side. It that wasn't bad enough then the following saturday was away to Forest.

At that time, Forest were up with liverpool as just abouyt the top club in the country. Current European Cup holders and unbeaten at home since just about the Ice Age. They had a team packed with internationals, Shilton, Burns, Woodcock, gemmel, robertson, the list went on.

And what did we have? Well, following the midweek humiliation, mullery went out and bought...peter Suddaby, a veteran defender languishing in the reserves at 3rd div Blackpool. He also brought back Mark Lawenson straight back after a lenghy injury, but he brought him back in midfield.

It was a dull, wet, day for the faithfull Albion fans in the open end, everybody wondering just how many we would get beaten by. but Albion started brightly, very brightly, and a goal by Gerry Ryan after 12 mins was sure to spark sluggish Forest into life.

Somehow that goal was more than just a goal. Our players seemed to grow, battled & fought, chased every ball whilst we, on the terraces, revelled in what we though woulkd be brief glory.

Behind us was the electronic clock, ever ticking it's way towards 90. forest launced a barrage of attacks, Albion stood firm, hero's to a man. Forest even won a penalty but Moseley saved! Wave after wave of forest attacks broke at the line of blue & white infront of us and we cheered non stop.

The clock had long since stopped at 90 mins but when would the ref blow?. horton broke up another attack and cleared the ball into the stand and it went perfectly down one of the exits...and the ref blew!

It's hard to name your 'best ever' game but this is way up with them in the catagory of heroic 'backs to the wall' matches. This win made the football world sit up & take notice, and it gave the team the belief that they could survive in the league.

Magic moments and well done to mullers for spotting Suddaby because his experince & organisational skills stemmed the time of defeats.

Has to be the 1-0 victory courtesy of Gerry Ryan - and the penalty save - which brought to an end an incredible unbeaten home record for Forest.

I know it wasn't away as the thread says, but how about Gary WIlliams goal to complete the double with the 1-0 win at the Goldstone. Superb.

even though we didnt win, has to be when we lost 3-2. Not only did Nathan Jones score a screamer, but it was also the day when we all did the GAY mexican wave - QUALITY!!!

Not just a screamer but he beat goodness knows how many players before he let leash.
The atmosphere that evening was great, helped by a full house of Forest fans (£5 to get in)

Some years ago we lost 5 - 0 at the City Ground and Digweed had a terrible game and dropped nearly as many as Kuipers does now! One of my boys went to get Digweeds autograph and handed him a pen and me being annoyed at the way we had lost said " dont give him your pen he will probably drop it" didnt go down well with Perry Digweeed.

Mine would be when we won 1-0 in 2004, Virgo scoring the winner.

Loved that game. They weren't happy about losing it.

As I left the ground, walking in the road, a grumpy arsed Forest fan drove his car up the side road where everyone leaves, but decided to have a go at me for being in his way (possibly influenced by the blue & white shirt), honking the horn and driving as close as possible to where I walked.

Unfortunately, the shock of this caused me to accidentally drop my bottle of Coke, getting it all over his paintwork and in through his slightly open window.

Oops :p

That was funny. Spoiling their nice mexican wave every time it came past us. Great away turn out that night as well. And we nearly pulled it back to 3-3 having been 3-0 down at one stage. I think we got voted the best bunch of away fans at the ground that season and rightly so. Even the coppers in the away end said they were amazed by how many, loud, and generally a decent bunch of supporters we were that night.

Has to be the 1-0 victory courtesy of Gerry Ryan - and the penalty save - which brought to an end an incredible unbeaten home record for Forest.

What a day out that was! And as Freddie Goodwin remembers above. there was this electronic clock that counted down the minutes of the match and we cheered every minute that passed from Gerry Ryan's 12th minute goal to the end of the end of injury time.

John Robertson must have put over 30 dangerous crosses in that game and Fozzie never played a better game for us as he dealt with every one.

Great days :albion2:
