Wasn't the MIllwall play-off match the one where our keeper was assaulted on the pitch before the game ? (Digweed I think)

I remember the game and seeing them burn police helmets. Don't remember trouble afterwards but there must have been a heavy escort.

We played them just inside the next season and won at The Den again. I think that was a midweek game too.

Wasn't it on John Robinson, by the touch line? And someone here me on this thread, that the assault was actually in the regular league game the following season 1991/92.

Leighton Town 1992 Ryman Div 3. Walking to the ground got ambushed between 2 Pubs with CS Gas and an assortment of weapons including a Baseball Bat ,Coshes and one lad ended up with stitches from a Machete. Aggro followed in the ground as Stewards tried to Keep fans apart .

Mad isn't it..think about the descriptions I've had about that match from you and other people who were there everytime I go to watch LT...with about 150 on max. Still got a few urchins watching them - kicked off in the club house at Havant & Waterlooville a few years back when H&W beat Leighton 3-0 and started their cup run. Leigh park...not a great idea!

Watching Bmth - noticed Chesterfield got a mention from an Albion fan, horrible place, only place I've been jumped watching AFCB. Cardiff obviously in that Aug-Dec2001 period before their Leeds cup match - same thing, bottles and coins from the right hand side, stared out from the left side, slaps given out in the car park etc etc Swindon never friendly either.

Other than that, my mate had watched Blackburn for 35 years and Boro is easily the worst away he's been to.

Correct. Digweed was injured in the warm up, Gary Chivers started in goal to to replaced by Beeney after 10 mins or so. Beeney apprehended the Millwall thug who assaulted Robinson . 'Twas a league game, though only a few months after the playoff game

I agree that any game at the old den was intimidating! Remember us winning when Wardy scored there was hardly any brighton in the away end but there was a lot of us incognito around the ground , remember the locals fighting with the police and challenging anyone they didn't recognise , luckily I was too young to be bothered with! A strange game was the 1982 cup game at Barnet where at eve end it seemed like everyone wanted to arrack Brighton , memory may be playing tricks but I think palace were waiting for us outside. Another mention for the dell it could get very hairy there too

Blimey I had forgotten about that. One of their fans ran out of the stand and did a high kick right in the middle of John Robinson's back!

Definitely the league game. I also remember a girl in the away end climbing on the fence and taunting Millwall fans which stirred a number of their lot. We were in the seats above (right next to the away end, in the main stand) as had complimentary tickets with the players' families but luckily weren't noticed. One of our party was a Millwall fan who decided to sit a few rows away with their fans as he felt we were a bit exposed with only one steward looking after us.

Or the game in the 80's when their fans lobbed bricks at the train!

Is that the one where the police told us to draw the curtains outside hassocks to prevent injuries from broken glass

Seeing as I'm not an old fart yet I'll go for when West ham smashed us 6-0 a few years back, all got off the train dying for a piss and picked their main pub to go in, queuing up to use the bogs in the basement whilst they bellowed out "we'll be blowing bubbles" we left sharpish after some cottoned on we were brighton

I remember going for drink on eastBourne pier the Friday before a west ham game and bumped into about 300 'Firm'. Left early and read that they had destroyed the pier nightclub later on.

Police too involved for Burnley apparently! He was the driver at Boro and apparently it was an engine running, 4 doors open waiting for his mates. It was late 80!s so probably a bit rough tbf.

In recent times, the Burnley / Blackburn away contingent are bused in as one, in a convoy surrounded by Police on all sides, for midday kick offs.

Not a single away fan is allowed to travel by any other means.
