I can sort of understand a scenario when the ref misses holgate’s ‘tackle’ and gives nothing.
But to actually witness it, and decide on yellow rather than red is insane.
Say what you like about VAR, but if it wasn’t for Var, Holgate was staying on the pitch. Incredible.
Also worth saying, VAR did the job it’s supposed to do bang on in correcting the howler quickly and clearly. Whole thing can’t have taken more than a minute.

Will raise a glass when they f*** off back to whence they came (again). That club is an embarrassment to the league.
I can't agree that Sheffield United are 'an embarrassment to the league'. The players and both managers have done what they can, but there is a gulf and the owners just didn't help them. We were promoted in 2017/18, playing a similar style of football and had a net spend of 70m Euros for Chris Hughton to fight the drop. Sheffield United's owners spent a similar amount the first time they were promoted two years later, but this time around, despite price increases, they spent half that amount. They've worked hard and they've been professional, but they were fighting a losing battle from day one. They have nothing to be embarrassed about, except perhaps for their comments about Holgate's assault today. There but for the grace (and nous) of Bloom would've gone us.

If you watch the video focusing solely Holgate and the ball, he had no eyes or intention on winning the ball. Instead he set out to end a player's match.

In the clips I saw I couldn't see his face to see whether he was looking at the ball or player

Not your favourite ex-albion player then ?
He graced the stripes a magnificent and tumescent 13 times. On a par with the astonishing (and former Blunt) Georges Santos (11). Bas Savage played for us three times that. Moonwalker!

But it is ruining the game. It would of been far better if it had stayed at a yellow. Move on. The game has been ruined by (I have asked my secretary to add more 'woe-is-me' cant later. Using the edit function).

A slight revising of opinion from CW.

No it's not. The comments you've quoted below are in the same interview where he said older players would be shaking their heads at the red card, and that 5/10 years ago it was a yellow. Yes he does admit that it's now a red, but he's suggesting it wasn't a bad challenge and it's simply the game that's changed and become a bit soft, like a non-contact sport.

He's wrong. That challenge was a straight red 30 years ago (assuming the ref was in a position to see what happened).

Fortunately Yorkshire Water have a convenient website for advice on this.

"some customers choose to install blue-coloured disinfectant in toilet cisterns. On rare occasions, blue-coloured tap water can also be due to such water from poorly installed toilet cisterns siphoning back into the internal plumbing."

Lovely :drink:
Come again?

Cloudy, milky or discoloured water you say?

My neighbours on one side have two teenage boys. My neighbours on the other side have three boys, one of whom is a teenager, and the other two due to be teenagers in due course.

Should I warn them? Regards, Concerned of Patcham.

It is almost pointless to wonder what would have been if something that is in operation had not been, as it affects the way the ref acts at the time. He may have issued a straight red if he hadn't the insurance of VAR, or he may have talked to the linesman. Perhaps both unlikely, but certainly not within the realms of possibility.

No! VAR is simply wrong! If Slab Head attacked J. Pedro with a machete, and the ref said 'play on', that is the right decision. It is possible to sew an arm back on, after an accidental severance, if swift medical intervention is applied. Nothing to see here.

I am sick of this modern technology. It. Is. Ruining. The Game.

Fact.

West is BEST
VAR.

Sometimes it swings in our favour. Sometimes it doesn’t.

Today it assured the correct decision. Next time it may not.

I don’t know where he was looking but it’s irrelevant with regards to the sending off. What I will say though, If he was looking at the ball then he’s a liability and needed to be sent off.

The ref was not at the correct angle to see the incident and so I understand his error.

The linesmen on the other hand had a perfect view and it's inexcusable as an officiating team they were unable to give this as a red card on the pitch.

VAR is basically there ruining our game because the officials are so poor they can't do the job on their own

Holgate has form for that sort of challenge. He needs to be shown how to tackle firmly without trying to end a players career
Holgate knew what he was doing, that was an intentional attempt at putting Mitoma out the game which could have been career ending. This fella should get a lengthy ban for that

The BBC says Holgate is the only player to have received a red card in each of the past three Premier League seasons. Interesting that his Wikipedia page doesn't note that claim to fame. Any Wikipedia editors out there?
