Do we think this going through could increase the chances of a bypass?

Like with the dog walkers crossed at Lancing Manor roundabout. Another hold up spot.

Hold on, there is a granny with a zimmer wanting to cross by the school. Let us put lights in there.

No amount of removing lights or crossing points will change the congestion from Lancing through Worthing. The hold up spots just hold up traffic getting to the next hold up spot.

Heaven forbid a granny or children should need to cross near a school, how dare they!

Quite. The issue of the A27 west of the Lancing roundabout is that it is no longer a trunk road.

Upgrades to six junctions are proposed - and they may help a bit, but won't resolve the main issues - namely that it is a suburban through route, with a speed limit of 40mph with turnings into residential areas. A bypass will either mean updating the current A27, with some compulsory house purchasing required and/or no access to Lancing / Sompting / Worthing except via interchanges.

Or... cutting a huge scar around the back of Lancing and Worthing into the South Downs, again with some probable compulsory purchasing.

During construction I’d imagine the A27 will go down to one lane whilst they build the roundabout. All because of the greed to line some peoples pockets.

And to build some urgently needed housing in an area earmarked for housing.

If the Lancing and Worthing had a proper bypass, I’d be all in favour.

Where would you route it?

IKEA isn't open in the morning rush hour, but it is in the evening one.

Martin Perry said on the radio this morning that there won't be a noticeable increase in traffic in the evening because existing road users will stop and shop. And this is confirmed by WSCC and Highways England.
