Both Cucurella and Trossard forced moves within the last six months!
In Cucurella case at least though he only went because Chelsea paid over the odds.

cucurella wanted City and ended up at Chelsea, who TB absolutely rinsed on price. Trossard was understandable given age, contract length but still for a very good price. You can go providing the price is right. If Arsenal offered £100m for MC today he would be gone. You would have to be financially stupid not to take £100m because he’s not worth that.

I'm not saying that the eventual outcomes weren't beneficial to us but just saying in both cases players did try to force Tony's hand and both left. Why would agents look at those examples and not think it's worth a try?

Another important factor on Trossard was that we had a ready-made replacement ready and waiting. In fact I think it's fair to say that Trossard would've been a bench player for the second half of the season.

I think that Caicedo has surprised everyone with the speed of his improvement since April, and that is why we don’t have a replacement for him at the moment. I think he’s probably a year in front of his anticipated development and it has caught the club out, in a good way.
All the noise about him now wasn’t expected until this time next year, IMO.

A player asking to move and it being in Brighton’s interests aren’t mutually exclusive.

Ask yourself, what did the club do when we agreed to sell Cucurella to a club paying over the odds? Upgraded to Estupinan and pocketed £45m profit.

Why did we sell Trossard? He was seemingly stinking the place out with his attitude, this was our last window to make top money for him and we already had more than suitable replacements in Mitoma and the improving Ferguson.

Every move we make is in the club’s best interests and in this case, we are best served by keeping Caicedo.

You're wrong, because you're ignoring the nuances of both deals:

1) Ultimately, everyone has their price and the buying club has to meet that price. Cucurella got lucky in the end as his was clearly met when Chelsea offered silly money. £60m FFS. Of course we accepted! You'll note Man City were sent away with a flea in their ear even when upping their £30m to £35m. He didn't "force" his move there did he?
2) Length of service is an issue. This club feels no obligation to allow its players to move to a top 6 club if they've only been here 5 minutes, and rightly so. Trossard may have sulked in the end, but to be fair he had done his time and played here for 2.5 years, and sometimes he was spectacularly good. As such, I doubt the club felt it was fair to hold out for top dollar, but equally nobody is saying his sale price was anything other than fair to all parties.

Dazzer said that any player trying to force Tony's hand wouldn't work out well for them. I just said that's simply not true, nothing else.

Naylor is still smashing out very good tweets. He has been handed a huge tit-bit for his support.

TB beginning to show his hand on this.

Very embarrassing for Arsenal to chase a player so hard when they are so successful, but still potentially fail!

Yep. Very much this.

Man City offered what most would consider to be a fair price. However, we had no intention of selling at a 'fair price'. Why would we? Cucu only went because Chelsea were prepared to way way over the top to convince us to sell. They done the same with Mudryk and looks like now Enzo.

💯 this.

If a house is up for sale its usually market price. If you see one that's perfect for you with residents who are happy and have no intention to sell, you don't get it for market price. You have to offer over the odds to make them even consider.

Arsenal thought that by offering market price (within a few mill of Chelsea offer) and by trying to use Caicedos new agents to force issue (no doubt with a nice juicy agents fee), they could nab him at market price.

TB brilliant as always. Naylor having a good window for once!

Players sign contracts and will happily stay in them if they're shit..... Locadia, but think they can renege at will if they're good..... Caicedo.

But how often does this happen? You don't even have your house on the market and someone knocks on your door saying I'll give you X for it (at 3am too).

Naylor has triggered so many Arsenal fans

He’s getting thousands of comments from Arsenal fans, it’s mad what success does, the Arsenal fan base are coming across as entitled knobs, even Newcastle fans have started becoming more toxic on social media, Arsenal are top halfway through the season and think they are prime 1970 Brazil, they could quite easily win nothing this season.

Even our own fans have becoming increasingly annoying the better we do… see the berating of March and Van Hecke recently.
