I don’t think it’s too much to ask for these players to appreciate that, in the middle of potentially the best campaign in Brighton’s history, the club will not want to break up the team. it amazes me when fans of other clubs gloat about this stuff. We don’t have to. If he leaves, we lose him at a pivotal point. If he stays and sulks we also lose him at a pivotal point but he’ll still be worth the same in the summer. It’s different to the likes of Bissouma and Trossard whose contract situation meant their value would quickly depreciate. I think the decision really is how much disruption keeping him would cause in the squad and whether we need to send a message that agents will not dictate our transfer policy. In my opinion, we have to stand firm on this one. Not to spite Caicedo but because the timing is totally unreasonable.

Agree. I'm from Adelaide and grew up on aussie rules. The AFL ain't perfect (go back to the 90's with all the underhand manoeurvring to get Port Adelaide in the AFL, which has in the end destroyed the SANFL) however, the skullduggery and total lack of morals and ethics in the EPL is breathtaking and prodigious! The Caicedo issue also shows the Club with a capital "C" (the big six) addressing the rising potential threat which is the Seagulls. They don't want another 2016 Leicester City threat continuing to evolve to threaten their hegemony. Overall grubby and disgusting.

All this talk of we sell for the right price is fine for the balance sheet but what about the fans. We aren’t going bankrupt whether we sell him now or in the summer but what we might lose out on is a shot at European football for the first time in our history. To us that’s priceless.

Sure Tony wants to recoup some money, fair play, and we want to be sustainable but he and Paul Barber also need to read the room, there’s passions and dreams in football fans they go way beyond balancing the books, feels to me like we are, for the first time losing sight of that.

I’m now more convinced he won’t be sold than before tbh. I don’t think either Bloom or Barber will want to be coerced into selling like this, totally the wrong move from the agent. Trossard created a situation where he was no longer wanted but Caicedo is just trying to create a pressure/force situation and neither of them are men who’ll give into that.
