I don’t think it’s too much to ask for these players to appreciate that, in the middle of potentially the best campaign in Brighton’s history, the club will not want to break up the team. it amazes me when fans of other clubs gloat about this stuff. It’s obvious it can’t be good for football when a team with a sensible financial approach that’s reached 6th in the table no longer has any chance of prospering.

Gen Z, the me me me generation will make this thing a lot more common going forward.

I thought laws like that already existed ? . You know , have to ask the parent club for permission to approach a player ?
I guess you just approach the agent instead? And I’m sure that is exactly how the so called big clubs like it, allows them to unsettle their targets without breaking any rules.

We don’t deserve it but maybe Tony and Paul could tighten up their language a little. They always sound firm but there’s a caveat of ‘unless a crazy offer comes in, everyone has a price etc.

Just say no. After selling Trossard we aren’t selling Caicedo or anyone else until the summer no matter what the bid is, end of. It can’t be that hard to spell it out.
The club did that before this ludicrous turn of events. This time they need to stick to it.

How? You can't force a player to play for you against his will.
We don’t have to. If he leaves, we lose him at a pivotal point. If he stays and sulks we also lose him at a pivotal point but he’ll still be worth the same in the summer. It’s different to the likes of Bissouma and Trossard whose contract situation meant their value would quickly depreciate. I think the decision really is how much disruption keeping him would cause in the squad and whether we need to send a message that agents will not dictate our transfer policy. In my opinion, we have to stand firm on this one. Not to spite Caicedo but because the timing is totally unreasonable.

Can I whisper it?
I'm feeling less hatred towards Palace than I am to the 6 clubs that wanted to join the Super League, plus the Sports Washing Saudi's.

I want to see us succeed against them all more than ever.
If they eventually sign our players, fair enough. But there is a correct way to behave and this isn't it.
There’s more that unites us and Palace than divides us in comparison to the self appointed ‘Big 6’ and the Tyneside nouveau-riche. Bar 2 days a year, I’m with you on that feeling.

This thread is a really interesting read.

Fascinating to see what happens in the next few days.

I think arsenal have played this well. They will get him for £70m maybe even 65m with let's say 5/10m add ons. Club will spin this as good business.

Brighton just don't dig their heels in with kids. It's a clever statement from caciedos team. If we hold onto him now we look like slave owners, the optics are pretty terrible. Forget about the 'truth' in a situation like this for the outside world.

It's a poor kids word against a billionaire owner.

This corrupt sport needs anti-tampering laws brought in ASAP.

NO clubs employees should be able to be approached without the permission of the club.

To have other clubs and agents making deals with other clubs behind a clubs back needs to be made illegal to protect the integrity of the sport(not that it has much of that).

Agree. I'm from Adelaide and grew up on aussie rules. The AFL ain't perfect (go back to the 90's with all the underhand manoeurvring to get Port Adelaide in the AFL, which has in the end destroyed the SANFL) however, the skullduggery and total lack of morals and ethics in the EPL is breathtaking and prodigious! The Caicedo issue also shows the Club with a capital "C" (the big six) addressing the rising potential threat which is the Seagulls. They don't want another 2016 Leicester City threat continuing to evolve to threaten their hegemony. Overall grubby and disgusting.

All this talk of we sell for the right price is fine for the balance sheet but what about the fans. We aren’t going bankrupt whether we sell him now or in the summer but what we might lose out on is a shot at European football for the first time in our history. To us that’s priceless.

Sure Tony wants to recoup some money, fair play, and we want to be sustainable but he and Paul Barber also need to read the room, there’s passions and dreams in football fans they go way beyond balancing the books, feels to me like we are, for the first time losing sight of that.
It's not about the balance sheet. It's about recruitment.

“I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club to continue to be successful.”

Since when do players wanting out stick their two pennies worth on club finances?

I realise that Edu/@agent really wrote this. But still.
I’m assuming that is his agent writing that bollocks. Whoever it is, it is patronising, condescending and downright rude. I hope our club does everything it can to curtail players and agents calling the shots, contracts need to be more enforceable.

I’m now more convinced he won’t be sold than before tbh. I don’t think either Bloom or Barber will want to be coerced into selling like this, totally the wrong move from the agent. Trossard created a situation where he was no longer wanted but Caicedo is just trying to create a pressure/force situation and neither of them are men who’ll give into that.

The problem is, can we even play him now after a move like that? I wonder what his relationship with RDZ will be like now?
Hopefully we stand firm as the importance of this stance reaches far further than this individual player

As to playing him, I don’t believe in this “he’s heads not right so not in the squad bollocks” I’d put him in, front and centre, get on with it, if he refuses that’s on him but oh we will let everyone know.

Yeh, looks like I may have been well wrong - assumed the club putting a statement out about no sales meant an end to it. Still think he’ll stay but it’s now a bit sour.
I assumed the Arsenal angle was them put a marker down for the summer to show internet, I didn’t think for a second Caicedo would sanction this message after what he said 3 days ago

Having a look at their agency it seems quite shitehouse and clear they need a payday

We can’t reward this behaviour with a transfer, this is just gutting all round.
Absolutely, how we act on this one (with it being high profile) sets the scene how we do business.

We need the “Brighton are difficult to do business with” mantra to remain as it was for Cucurella.

It would be so Brighton if we announce a new signing for the future but to USG for the season today out of the blue

I’m still wondering if this is cock up rather than conspiracy. Someone at his new agency has jumped the gun and might well have jeopardised the move.

Sacked in the morning.
Or frame it as a cock up (damage already done) despite the intent, after they’ve actually spoken to the club who say no

We’re not going to give in on this one I’ve got a feeling. We’ve said not for sale so unless a club comes in with silly money (£100m +) he won’t be leaving in this window.

Especially with the impossibly short time we’d have to find a replacement, and the fact everyone would know we’ve just cashed in and are desperate for a replacement so would rip us off, it’s just not how we do business.

if MC has given the go ahead for that tweet or whatever to be made public then he's been rather naive to say the least , if his agent has published masquerading as him then shirley that is verging on criminal.

i mean the one from his agent pleading to be allowed to leave , not all the bollox from Romano who appears to be just a shit stirring mouthpiece for said agent(s)

He's played 26 times for us in the Premier League and wants away - unbelievable,

Unfortunately this has been allowed to happen by Tony Bloom making the ridiculous statement that he will not stand in the way of anyone who wants to leave.
I see. It's all Tony's fault. Silly me. Never thought of that.

Maybe there should be awards for crappiest posts like that one.
