I don't know where the media gets the figures from, but if you look on the internet, he is being referred to as £35m Mitoma. Utter nonsense again. It makes you wonder whether the clubs who want to buy leak low valuations to the press in the hope that the club that owns players believes the figure. History would suggest that this doesn't work on Mr Bloom.

I'm sure we have flogged a few Mitoma shirts, but for relatively small amounts of money. What players like Kaoru give the club is less measurable, but something sought after by every Chief Exec of every company everywhere. Brand prominence. That's where the real money is, because sponsors want a a bit of Brighton star dust attached to their name, I bet we announce tonnes of random sponsorship deals, in the next year. Official bog roll supplier, that sort of thing. When the Amex deal is up for renewal, we can genuinely market ourselves as a world brand.

Not just because of Mitoma, but our marvellous world cup winner and other role models around the world, we are, quite suddenly, very marketable

In a market run by grown-ups and not sportwashing super states, oligarchs and American billionaires, Mitoma probably is £30m tops. Or should be.

However the market isn't run by grown-ups and a player with a few appearances and goals can be £5m one minute, 20 games later can be £80m - it is utterly ridiculous we are talking in those terms, but that is the new normal. It is what it is!
