For that reason, I'm in.I am not in favour of this

The round of applause for Cyrille Regis was a wonderful moment to watch, where all showed their respect for a great ambassador to our game.
I found it hard to believe then let alone now, we owed him that at least.I still remember as a callow boy of 13 in the mid 1970s seeing Banana's thrown on the pitch and monkey chants. I still remember people frothing at the mouth that a black player was on the pitch. Hard to believe those times ever existed but they did and Regis had to ply his trade in those conditions. I cannot personally think of a player who has died who deserves a minutes applause more
I thought that too. Was expecting something at least 30 lower......
What happened to a round of applause for one of our own who served us well Steve Piper?
I fully accept what he did for football but I am not in favour of this for any player and it now seems as if they are looking for an excuse to have a minutes applause.

Are you adding racism to your panoply of talents........
I dont agree with them for anybody but if it is the wish to do it should have been done for Steve Piper as you sad an oversight by the club. Personally I know which one brought most to me.
Yes - because it's all about you.
Meanwhile, the fact that you choose to actively overlook - as if they didn't matter - the efforts of Cyrille Regis, and the great benefits they have brought to society as a whole, says so much about you...

Where does that come from? Nothing of the sort :for me as a Brighton fan Steve Piper did more than Cyrille Regis as a WBA player based purely on my enjoyment nothing to do whatsoever with anything other than the enjoyment he gave me as a young man. Some people try to make up something that isnt there because it suits their agenda. As I said all along I dont think it should be done for anybody
Where does that come from? Steve Piper may have done a lot for your enjoyment of football. Fair enough. But the colour if his skin was ........white.
Cyrille Regus was being applauded on Saturday BECAUSE he was black. He suffered a great deal of abuse BECAUSE he was black. He pit up with it and help change opinions. Try talking to our own Mr Hugh ton about it, who was a contemporary of his about his role and his stature in the game as someone who made subsequent life (eventually) easier for other black players. Read Liam Rosenior''s article in the Guardian last Friday about it.
Others on here have said he wasn't the first. Fair enough. But if you still don't get the significance if what he and others did, just shut up and stop digging yourself in to an ever bigger hole.
You are a great one to talk about it all being about you!!
I am talking as a staunch fan and I do believe the club should have done the same for Steve Piper if it was their wish to do it for anybody. The good point was that it was done before the game not at some given time during the game to detract from the actual game.
