So he’s a right back now?
TBF since the Nottingham match, his heatmaps are evidence that he is now playing far more defensively.

This tactical tweak has made a big difference and is a massive credit to both Minteh and the manager.

Have to admit there was a point early in the season where I thought we’d bought a competition winner. He could barely control a football and just ran in straight lines into trouble. Since about Xmas though he’s seriously come on and is a must start player. Defenders must hate playing against him and even better means they can’t double up on Mitoma as easily as have to worry about both sides.

Same, thought Adringa was a far better player at the start of the season.

And can we all please just accept that the other side of the coin to 'incredible work rate, immense but raw talent and total enthusiasm' is the occasional 'bad decision, wild overhead clearance and silly challenge in the box'. If/when he eliminates those from his game, he won't be with us for long!

I write this as a total fan of what he is NOW.
Yep exactly this.

PSR has really done us and him a big favour.
He's the archetypal, Brighton elite prospect.

playing regularly in the Premier League, learning from the likes of Welbeck, March, Mitoma and being given the freedom to fail every once in a while.

Yup. Biggest change is that he makes things simpler now. At first he wanted to dribble someone every time he had the ball, now he just goes for the end product as direct as possible. Its good to see, was worried he'd be stuck in the "tries too hard"-stage longer than he was.

You could always see the talent was there in my opinion, much like Baleba last season, but just frustratingly inconsistent and bad decision making.

He seems to be overcoming these issues at a really rapid rate of development.

'If I was the manager I would be having a word with him'

Former Brighton striker Warren Aspinall has criticised Yankuba Minteh's attitude in their FA Cup victory at Newcastle on Sunday.

Speaking on the Albion Unlimited podcast, he said: "It's all about attitude of the players now [for the rest of the season]. Look at Tariq Lamptey - he has waited and waited and he has been playing out of his skin in the past three games.

"I didn't like the way that [Yankuba] Minteh came off, when he was shaking his head. Just get yourself off, hug your team-mate and sit down.

"If you have got any problems, go and knock on the manager's door on Monday morning. Don't show disrespect to the manager because he has made those decisions. The substitutions who came on won us the game.

"If I was the manager, I would be having a word with him and asking what his problem was."

I didnt like it either. He's a great player but it always annoys me to see any player doing this.

I wonder whether Minteh might get a pass though, as he clearly had something to prove at Newcastle. That was clearly on his mind after an eventful game where he went from distraught villain to hero. As long as he doesn't do that against anyone else...

If he can stop slipping over when in dangerous positions, he will be elite.

He could simply have been frustrated because he knew he could have had even more impact against a former club that never played him. It might not have been a judgement of the managers decision.

He is also very evidently coachable (see the change in tackling back). If it was abit of frustration, I'm sure a quiet word on the optics will sort him out.

I’m not sure I quite follow that. The first time most of us saw him was against Man Utd at home and he spent most of that game working his backside off defensively.

I think it's always been a bigger part of his game than he's been given credit for.
He's just got better at it (Newcastle penalty apart) and more people remarking on it.

He was looking anything but pissed off on the touchline when Welbeck scored.
