It was Stuani. The commentator kept going on about some new "second phase" offside rule, which sounds rather odd. Had he been yards offside when the kick was taken, standing next to Stockdale for example, would he still not have been offside?

It's impossible to understand the offside rule in its current format. Especially when the game is 100mph and the linesman gets one look (through players) from 40 yards away.

I'd have loved us to have done the same if we were in front, Hughton has a hell of a job to get the team ready for Friday

Me too but we were chasing the win so we had to play the creative players rather than the aggressive players.

I don't envy Chris task for the play offs. Today is a big blow Psychologically and the loss of Stephens is a massive blow. I normally have an idea how I would play it going into a match but to be honest I don't have the faintest idea how I would play it.

Sheff Wed probably rested players today and we went through a gruelling 90 minutes. They need a day off tomorrow but I don't think they will. I have a feeling they will be in, if nothing else to assess their mental state and injury check

It was clearly serious foul play ("danger of injuring opponent"). Straight red card, that is.

Stephens had been warned--verbally--if a Boro player had drawn blood from the "bloody" leg of an Albion player we would have been screaming for a red card.

I'm looking for positives to get me out of my funk, I'll take anything on offer

Hi Brighton.... I hope it's OK I popped by. A positive should be that Brighton are a good side, and easily better than the other play off teams. I hope you can show that now, and will be cheering you on. I really wanted today to be a bore draw promotion for both of us.

Funnily enough I thought the ref gave your boss a bit today too. Didn't think he was as terrible as stone are saying.

If I'm honest, I don't think there's much between our teams. BUT.... Boro could easily have been 3-0 at half time. Your boys looked the more nervous, and made some defensive mistakes.

Second half was a different story, but you didn't really have any chances. Even your goal was a ball being headed back across.... was never a 'shot', but he did really well to make it. Our keeper was poor for that.

Watching you against Derby, I was afraid of you attacking with pace, but it never really happened. Knockheart was quiet. He looked GREAT against Derby. Other than your goal, you pretty much had no chances, which really surprised me. Maybe Boro were part of that? Even so, it was horrible to watch it all.... So tense.

Finally.... it probably was unlucky to get Stephens (?) Sent off... and I think seeing the wound aided the ref decision. On TV pundits saying it could easily be a red.... So maybe not totally outrageous?

Anyway.... YOU BOYS CAN STILL DO THIS. I wanted Boro and Brighton for a while. Unlucky today..... go again on Friday. UTA.

UTA.

No offence but that's a bit rich. Were you at the toilet for your own goal ? Exactly the same. If the Brighton goal hadn't looped in it would have been tapped in by the two Brighton players who were free on the goal line

Wow... looks like the inbreds from Burnley are ugly on the inside as well as the out.

Saw Burnley several times on TV this season. No idea how they finished top... apart from lucky late goals against Brighton and Boro! Shame.

Definitely. You looked rock solid and never allowed us the opportunity to get going. We might have tested you properly in the last half hour if Stephens hadn't been sent off but we'll never know now. I'm bitterly disappointed we didn't do it but can't complain too much. You never looked like losing and are comfortably the best team we've played this season. Hopefully we can join in the premier league through the play offs.

Yes, true.... you did have the two guys to put out in. Our goal was pretty similar to be fair. Accept your point.

Surely you agree that we had several more good chances though?

Cheers.

This. I was in the pub with my wife, praying she wouldn't ask me to explain the offside rule.

Normally I am fairly honest about all these things but I am in too much of a bad mood to pat Boro and Boro fans on the back. You got promoted good luck to you for a good season. Its easy to be nice when you win but to come on this forum looking for us to say lovely things about you is a bit of a cheek. Especially when you probably realise that things still hurt quite a lot at the moment.

Enjoy the Middlesbrough party but I don't want to go to it.

Not sure I understand it fully, but my biased view is that he (stuani) gained an advantage by standing in an offside position- he was in front of the defenders when the ball came back. Similar to if the keeper had tipped the ball onto the bar and came back to him . I don't understand 2nd phase etc so I could be wrong, but at the moment I want to sulk, so it was offside clearly . By the way Peter Beagrie is an annoying **** of a pundit isn't he?
