'An eye for an eye' seems to be the argument mainly. Well if that is how the whole thing is to be 'conducted' the Middle East will explode. WHOEVER the original perpetrators of such barbarity.
The middle east won't explode, the Nations that have attacked Israel in the past, will not do so now, they know Israel will knock them back into the stone age with air and missile power in double quick time.... Egypt won't, Lebanon can't, Syria can't anymore, Jordan won't.... only Iran are motivated enough, but they know from bitter past experience that the Israelis will destroy their infrastructure before an Iranian soldier got anywhere near invading.... Israel would support a two state solution, but the militant groups, Hamas, Hezbollah, Fatah and even Islamic Jihad have zero desire to settle, they simply want Israel and the Jews exterminated..... on the other side, only the ultra-extreme orthodox Jewish groups oppose a settlement of any sort with the Palestinians.... they number 8-10%>>> significant, but actually, only a small % if those would cause any real trouble.

Can't disagree with this

Most of what you say is true but the current Israeli government does not support a two state solution. The continual expansion of settlement activity on Palestinian land is intended to ake a Palestinian state impossible.

As with all these things, what is the plan for peace?

As someone far smarter than me once said, “It is easy to start a war. It is harder to stop it.”

Always know what you are going to do next. Iraq and Afghanistan are examples of this.

The right thing to do now is not invade. I doubt that will happen.

This isn't the first time,.. there have been many military incursions after Israel has been attacked, 2014 was the last big one, they went in, destroyed all the terrorist infrastructure they could find, then withdrew.

The Palestinians do not want to co-exist, it's as simple as that, Iran and Qatar just fund the rebuild after each crisis, it then starts again... this particular crisis just the latest.

Note: you know that there have been ZERO Israeli settlements in Gaza or the Sinai for 20 years... the Gaza conflict is about destroying Israel and killing Jews,.. nothing else.

looks like the plan is to flatten Gaza, drive everyone out, then there's no where for Hamas to hide. there'll be only rubble, but it'll be at peace.

It’s interesting to see the double standards in UK media interviews

Anyone who is interviewed who is on the pro-Palestinian side who says “the killing of Palestinian kids is bad” is immediately challenged with “BUT DID YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY?? DO YOU CONDEMN THAT?? WHY SHOULDN’T ISRAEL DEFEND ITSELF??”

However anyone who is interviewed on the pro-Israeli side is never asked about what is happening to the innocent civilians of Gaza, either since Saturday or before it.

The whole thing is a mess but it takes two to tango, last Saturday was not an attack out of the blue on a nation which was committed to peace and harmony.

A bit of history here... Israel was created in 1947... it was created from only 20% of what was formerly British Palestine... the remaining 80% of Palestine was taken on by Jordan as a homeland for those Palestinians who didn't want to remain in Israel... so there you have it, there is plenty of provision for Hamas to take up,... but they don't want peace.

I have to ask, have you read any of the many detailed and informative posts on this thread explaining the many complex and historic reasons behind this current situation:shrug:

Oh I know the history....why do you ask?

Because you believe, regardless of all the information contained in this thread that the reason is The Palestinians do not want to co-exist, it's as simple as that

And I assume that because you know your history, the use of the word Palestinians rather than Hamas was completely intentional.

Well yes, more than half of Palestinians do not believe Israel has a right to exist .. that's fairly conclusive, ... Hamas is just the extremist tip of that particular spear of opinion.

But most Irish believe the same about Northern Ireland. That doesn't mean they didn't want the end to kids being blown up in shops and so voted for a solution that meant they could all go about their lives.

Agreed,.... currently, however, if a vote was carried out in Gaza and the West Bank, the majority of non-Jews would vote to continue the 'struggle'.

Well you've lost half the Palestinian population in under 30 mins with absolutely no source for either of your completely contradictory 'statistics'. I'll leave it here :bigwave:

Oh come on, do better. There isn't a negotiated peace deal on the table is there FFS? Instead Netanyahu's unchecked right wing loons just continue to steal occupied land in the west bank and nobody in the wider world seems to care.

Nothing on offer at the moment, no,... just more violence in the cause of religion, very primeval if you ask my humble opinion.

The West Bank is certainly more problematic, and this boils down to Jerusalem at the heart of it, no religion wants to give it up... not even under a neutral, international administration mandate, as has been proposed before.
