I'm 39 and the fact I'm old firmly hit me last week (with an unpleasant reminder from my husband no less)....I've a hankering to do something and shift out of this unpleasant rut I'm in - I'll let you know what happens....

I'm 54 and a MLC has passed me by.

My hair hasn't gone grey/receded/thinned, I don't suffer from insomnia, I have felt no urge to buy a fast car/motorbike/racing bike, I'm perfectly happy with my missus and see no need to have an affair, I have no tattoos or piercing, am still reasonably interested in the current music scene and still get a buzz out of going to football.

The only things that have affected me is that I need specs for reading and I'm not up to playing competitive football any more.

Perhaps, I'll have my crisis at 60 and go wild on a Saga holiday.

I did, it cost a lot but it left me with a lot of good memories (and a few not so good). Told the people I'm currently working with how old I really am yesterday and surprised them so I must be doing something right.

Don't fight it. Give in to it. Mine was major. Got divorced, sold my business but now at 51 the happiest and most content I've ever been. And no insomnia.

I'm 52 and the only negatives I have noted are the need to control hair re-routing from my head to unexpected places and avoid really spicy food. My fitness, energy levels etc. are better than at 40. No obvious signs of a MLC, no fast car, hair dye etc. No looking for extra-marital affairs either although, bizarrely, the opportunities seem to have increased. The only thing that can get to me is the knowledge that I am nearer 70 than 30 and have less time left.

I am too immature to have MLC at the moment(I am 45) have one booked for my mid seventies, when I will shack up with a hooker from the Ukraine, start taking coke, buy a Harley Davidson and get a tattoo of love and hate on my knuckles. Really looking forward to it. Frank Bough is my hero.

I no longer need to take drugs - just standing up quickly achieves the same effect.

Past 40 and approaching 50 so all is true about the hair bit especially eye brows however the Mrs is well trained in sorting them out.

Work wise just plod along as no ambition at all, happy with salary and if made redundant so be it as good wedge will be had and can re-think what I want to do or every extra year worked adds to the pension.

Lifestyle very good as one kid virtually independent and the other growing up we now have the novelty of having a holiday as just us for a change once a year which is fantastic fun in February. Financial side gets better as not long left on the mortgage and both work.

I'm almost 39 and the MLC is definitely hitting. In the last six months I have been overwhelmed by the urge to quit my job and do something creative and also buy a VW Scirocco. Unfortunately, I can't afford to do either.

Just remember that when you're 70, being 52 will feel pretty damn young!

Mid-life, you look at the youngers and think, did I do those supid things and then get on with really enjoying life and not worry about what the future holds. Done more after 40 than I DID BEFORE.

Meopham, Kent.
40 is no longer off in the distance, it's virtually upon me now.

Life is great, in a relationship and very happy, but the MLC will inevitably hit won't it, and when it does it will be spectacularly good. Fast cars, impossibly exciting job, with tonnes of International travel, some insanely gorgeous young girlie(s) will lead me astray, in some pointlessly lustful few months of madness, and .... well, goodness only knows what else, but it will be a laugh.

I concur with most of the above. The downside being the hair growing wildly from certain provides etc. The upside being "work to live" I no longer aspire to bust my gut for others to profit; realising that my life was in neutral and I took the jump to move out of a marriage that was going nowhere to finding the most wonderful person who is best suited to me. Someone who encourages me to go to footy, begged me to get a 1901 membership and books away games for both of us before I have time to think about it, compared to someone who saw my visits to the Withdean as an excuse to use against me(you can imagine what an away fixture meant)! Looking back it's great to be this age know what you know and not worry about the future.
