Michael Jackson - well said that man

US TV presenter Bill O'reilly has sparked outrage by launching into a bitter tirade about Michael Jackson on his nightly news show - calling the outpouring of grief since the star's death "pathetic in the extreme". Bill O'reilly who presents The O'Reilly Factor on America's Fox News channel, used his Tuesday night programme to discuss Jackson in the hours after the music legend was remembered at a memorial service in Los Angeles.

O'Reilly criticised the singer's legions of fans for publicly mourning the star - insisting the "adulation must stop".

He says, "It is basically grandstanding and pathetic in the extreme. Yes, the man was an all star entertainer, but that's it. Enough with the phoney platitudes. His incredible selfishness spending hundreds of millions of dollars on himself while singing We Are The World should make any clear thinking American nauseous. (And) Jackson's interaction with children were (sic) unacceptable for any adult."

The outspoken TV presenter went on to slam Jackson family friend Reverend Al Sharpton for the comments he made during the memorial service, criticising the civil rights activist for praising the Thriller hitmaker's ability to transcend racial boundaries.

He adds, "Why is Al Sharpton making this a racial deal. Jackson bleached his own skin and then chose white men to provide existence for his in-vitro children. To hear Sharpton speak today, you’d think Jackson was Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Why is he being held up in the African American community as a pillar of Black America when he bleached his skin?”

And O'Reilly didn't stop there - he also attacked the American media, calling news reporters hypocritical in their coverage of Jackson's demise.

He adds, "A cowardly media will exploit any event for ratings. Remember the same people extolling Jackson today were the same people giving his child molestation trial gavel-to-gavel attention. And after Michael Jackson was found not guilty the American media did not exactly elevate him to hero status. But now that he's dead, he's a hero. How does that work?"

:yahoo: spot on.

This coming from a man who repeatedly accuse american military of shooting unarmed nazis after they surrendered (it was nazis shooting unarmed american soldiers), said in reaction to jamie lynn spears announcement she was pregnant that it was an embarassment, that her mother was a failure and she should be ashamed and criticised, yet when bristol palin revealed she was pregnant, it was ok because she had a family to help support her and the press should leave her alone as she isn't a burden on tax payers, the same man that criticises paparazzi for hounding celebrities, then sends his own reporters to hound public figures while they're trying to get on with their lives.

Yup, Bill O'reilly knows a thing or two about hypocritical media.

Bill O'Reilly - wanker.

Bill O'Reilly's opinion on Michael Jackson - spot on.

Jackson, Diana etc does my head in. If you are close to someone who dies, grieve. If you respect what someone has achieved in their life (although I really have no idea what Diana "achieved"), then be sad about their passing, but for christs sake get a grip and move on with life.

Yeah, I know nothing about Bill O'Reilly, I just though his statement on this issue rings true. I mean look at Sky news they wasted days reporting live from LA ! reporting what exactly ? utter tripe, it was an embaressment, like my spelling by all accounts.

It is all very well saying that, but there are always going to be various cult figures that will affect the general public more than the average passing. Jaclson meant a lot to people. I don't see why someone should be castigated for feeling sad (I am not saying that you are doing that).

As for 'what did Diana achieve'? She fulfiiled her duties, but went beyond that and was the first person, mainly, to connect with people who suffered from AIDS and Leprosy. Massive strides after her public actions. I wouldn't call her the 'People's Princess' but she did more, globally, than the rest of the Royal Family. She was special (without wishing to sound like one of the crazed obsessed mourners).

Maybe I am being harsh to suggest Diana did nothing, but ultimately she never worked a day in her life (as far as I am aware, could be wrong). I think we all have charitable aspirations we could fulfill if we were in a priviliged position to and didn't have to worry about life's more immediate issues, which she didn't. She certainly was no saint.

I think my opinion on Diana is slightly subjective given I lost a close family member the same week, but its made me incredibly cynical about public mourning in general.

She didn't have to work a day in her life is wrong. Whilst she was in a position to enjoy servants and various trappings of royalty, she did have a full schedule of engagements. Prince Charles attended 550+ engagements last year.

Diana is seen to be a saint as she was the first person, publically, to connect with AIDS and leprosy sufferers, physically. She broke down barriers and came across as a normal person, in a strange old situation.

Is an "engagement" really work as you or I know it?

I'm not doubting that Diana was a nice person. But in my opinion, thats all she was (and gained her position through aristocracy rather than talent or hard work), and I found the hysteria quite sickening. And I'm not convinced Jacko was even that...

Engagement, Work that we know it? Obviosuly not. Is a footballer worth £?k a week? Being a royal is a priveleged position, but it is not a walk in the park. Someone like John Terry is idolised, but I would say that he works much less than a royal and gets paid more for his endeavours. There are plenty of positions in Britain that would be more of an 'engagement' than putting together a vacuum cleaner or supervising the bottling of beer. I am not sure I could be friendly/cheerful/chirpy for 2/3 events a day.

Diana did have a head start in life, but she seemed to embrace it. She went further than those in that sort of position and went out of her way to make a difference, beyond her duty of call. I am not saying that she should bee sainted, but she was worth her weight in gold. There is not much of a yardstick to measure her accomplishments, but her achievements should not be belittled because she was a royal and in a position to make a difference.

We can all make a difference.

Sure, it's a publicity seeking rant but a lot of what he said is true.
