In my younger days living in a bedsit in Kennington I tried to trace a rather disgusting smell, but wasn't successful. When it came to my bi-monthly tidy up I picked up my unstable pile of NMEs and Guardians to be literally knocked over by a horrible stench. There, underneath the very bottom Guardian was a dead mouse, legs splayed apart, and starting to decompose.

I tried to picture the scene at the point that I must have trapped it. Sitting in my seat, trying to do the Guardian crossword I feel that must have given up and thrown the paper down beside my chair to land smack on the poor little rodent and kill him outright.

The pen is truly mightier than the sword.

We have the same problems in the winter & I hate mice. They crawl through the airbricks from outside & then find any way they can of getting into the rooms. Holes where radiator pipes go through the floorboards are favourite & so is the boxing that carries the pipes from the bioler in the kitchen to the upstairs.

Chocolate on mousetraps is effective, of course I can't deal with the trap once it has gone off! We've got small tubs of poison under the floor boards in each room. Ours must go outside to die as we have never had any unpleasant smells.

I have also got a plug in thing that is supposed to give off very high frequency sounds that hurt their ears, so they go running off outside. Humans can't hear the sounds, but mice can & this has been fairly successful.

I think I've got the same device. Its a CD player with The Darkness album in it - seems to work on most living vertibrates actually, and causes the same thing to happen.

Mine (God rest his little furry soul) had a penchant for birds, though not quite killing them, resulting in one petrified sparrow flapping around the living room, and an hour long chase to get the thing outside again.

Cat, meanwhile sits watching frantic bird-catching exercises with interested but self-satisfied look on his face, as if to say "catch it if you like, but as soon as you release it back outside, I will go and find another one".

my cat is useless at catching birds, she sits inside watching them and making pathetic noises!
My old cat used to do that. Is it a twitchy kind of "ah ah ah ah ah ahha ah ah ahhh" noise ? I think its a deep yearning, or something.

Who'd have thought a mice/cats thread would have attracted so much interest?

:lolol:

At this point I should shamefacedly confess that (as a young child) I named my poor cat Fizzy.

Can anyone else boast a stupider name for their cat (or dog, even though dogs are greatly inferior to cats) than that?

I used to live with a Burmese cat called Hanoi, I used to call it Hanoi-ing (annoying). The damn thing used to perch on your shoulder when you were doing the washing up and lick yer ear (quite nice actually). Small little thing, could throw it for miles.

I use a trackball myself. I can't get on with mice at all.

:jester:

PS: The Council (some Councils) will come out for free if you say they are rats. Don't know if they charge you if they find out they are mice.

Mice are very fond of cat food.

The poison is sold in pet shops.

Someone I know lost all their chocolate sweeties on their Christmas Tree to mice that climbed up the tree at night.

The puddy cat is not mine (his owners pay his vet bills) but he is asleep on the chair, and its name is Puddy Cat. He is 18 years old so I do not like to throw him out in the cold.

Mice update:

Six trays of poison, two mousetraps each loaded with a chocolate button... and the damn things were nowhere to be seen all day.

I know they are around though, because three of the trays had been nibbled at.

Gits.:(
