Louise Mensch is giving up politics to go and live with her husband in New York. She seems to be the eye candy of the tory party and, whilst she is very articulate, I don't agree with many of her views. Still, by-election looms. Didn't realize that she is married to the manager of Metallica.

Good riddance. Most politicians are completely detached from reality in regards to the drugs debate but she could have been the exception. However instead of speaking up against how the prohibition of drugs is not working, she opted to selfishly demonise drugs further by claiming they ruined her life and were the biggest mistake she ever made etc etc- Utter nonsense, I bet she had a great time. The only reason she regrets taking them is because the press found out and ruined her political career.

Or maybe she thinks she had a bad time, and doesn't want to endorse it - you have no idea.

Just far enough away from LDC
She was heading for a Junior Minister post when the next reshuffle took place. Spent a lot of time being rent a support for many an embatled minister and defended Jeremy Hunt on every forum available. Whether she's been told she wasnt in line for that promotion - or more likely she was sounded out and realised the effect on her family, she will be a loss for the right of the party.

I like that she's quitting because she can't spend enough time with her family. Perhaps if she didn't appear on every radio and tv programme at every opportunty she could have found some time.

I'm all for equal rights but I still can't help thinking that someone who puts collecting the kids from school ahead of playing a part in running the country (albeit in a minor role) isn't what I want to vote for. That said, the vast majority of our MP's could emigrate to New York and it really wouldn't make a noticeable difference would it

I think some of the low lifes in New York might have something to say. Even they have certain standards!
