I would have thought so which would alienate the casual supporter

Prepare for noises from the club that it will include STHs.

Then outrage from STHs.

Then the club will deny it had any plans to include STHs in the scheme, leading to widespread relief, and Barber will use this relief to plough on with his scheme.

As i said, Barber is playing a PR blinder.

What I'm reading one here is a reaction to something which is being floated past Brighton fans. It's the mere suggestion of what the club has in mind that has set some people off. The post I made was meant to mean "if you don't like this 'idea', let him know...", even though as some are making assumptions as to what may be introduced. As KNC says, I'm going to wait for everything to come out before making my mind up; at present I'm ambivalent.

I don't think the so-called 'drip-drip' of information is a problem as such. The thing I read on there led me to believe they have an idea, but nothing is set in concrete.

If you want to float an idea past fans you don't issue a release on the website. There are far more effective ways of testing product ideas.

How many fans do they think we have?

We're tiny compared to the arsenals and spurs of this world who also have membership schemes...

What A joke... Barber is acting like We are A Prem league club, He must know what us fans have had to put up with over the years with this club... Now Hes trying to rinse every penny He can out of us, great way to repay the loyalty...

I just wanna pay for My season ticket (and my nephews) go to the games and the away ones I want... I can understand A loyalty scheme, like there already is with the points thing, but having to pay more money is A pisstake...

I get the feeling he's trying to make the club as 'posh' and corporate as possible, in doing so getting rid of the average football fan...

At present the club has 1901 membership, season ticket holders, ex-season ticket holders, people with purchase history and probably some record of people who have bought merchandise. Couldn't it be a really good idea to collect all this information together?

People who have bought a kit in the past could be e-mailed when new kits come in. People who have been to only cup games could be contacted when these types of tickets become available. People who share season tickets could do so 'legally' by both registering and both contacted with club e-mails. If the club can target sales more effectively then they could make more money. This could be simply a tidying up exercise and a really good idea.

If they want to try and get another £30 out of me I will be most annoyed.

I'm not enthused. People are going to have to pay for something that is currently free and they probably will pay because they don't want the possibility of missing out - a way to make money out of those who are not season ticket holders.

Moan all you like (and by God some people on here can't half moan) but if you'd prefer to take a slightly less sinister view of things it isn't that difficult.

BHAFC want to launch some sort of membership scheme (details probably known to themselves) and thought it would be nice to get some buy-in on the name from the fans. To do so they need to provide enough info so that people have some idea what they are attempting to name, but not so much that they pre-announce the whole thing. So they spell out the general idea but not the specifics, and ask for people to pick from the pre-arranged names (which are no surprise; things like trademark registration have probably already been carried out pre-emptively). Once they have the name sorted they generate the appropriate marketing materials for the actual launch.

Is this likely? Who knows? But it's certainly possible, and just as likely as much of the guff that's been spewed on here. For supposed fans of BHAFC so many people are just dying for a chance to be negative.

Admittedly without knowing the meat on the bones it's difficult to know what to make of it yet. But, if as feared, it is the most unnerving development of the Barber era as it will amount to a massive piss-take and repositioning of the club ideal firmly in the corporate-first, fan second category of the big Prem club model. If so, no thank you very much, I'd rather miss out.

There is absolutely no need for a membership scheme. They have a database with everyone's names and addresses going back to the 90s, they have a points system that tells them what tickets each person has bought. It is just an excuse to squeeze more money out of supporters and it sucks. They'll bring it in and then in a years time they'll add another premium layer then the year after that they'll add a platinum premium layer. then they'll scrap the whole thing and start a new scheme.

Exactly this.

Perhaps STHs are members automatically for no extra cost. The same a the gold membership worked at Withdean. That was pre-Barber.

Also there's been a "membership" link on the tickets page for ages, again, pre-Barber

I hope you're right, because if we have to pay for this, Barber can do one.

I've read that twice.

We are being asked to vote on the name of a membership scheme without being any details of said membership scheme ?

How wonderfully inclusive :lolol:

It's the Blue Peter Dog model.

This. We could all be jumping to the wrong conclusions and its not worth throwing a wobbly until we know all the details.

I think the statement is 'testing the water'. There is no mention of a cost now which will mean there will be one when the details are finalised. Very clever, when it opens there will be no 'shock / horror' as it has been fully aired on this site.:glare:

Given the you wouldn't expect current season ticket holders to have to pay for membership ( god help us if they did ! ) then £210k from the remaining 7k fans ( assuming a £30 fee ) is hardly going to go very far !

Exactly, whatever this turns out to be, this IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE, and unless they charge £100+ it never will be. They might, however, want to actually cover costs of a scheme for once, which is a novel idea in light of the way the club has historically failed to keep tabs on costs.

exactly this. it doesnt say anything about a fee, but we assume there will be to make it "effecient". the income surely wont balance the ill feeling and distrust. for me, i still hold a grudge that my "life time" AMS membership didn't last quite as i had expected. really dont see any purpose for this, i've been able to get tickets to major games both last two years and get an email about every game telling me theres a few left, and other offers. theres the membership right there, as has been said, stonking database of everyone whose brought a ticket in the last 10 years. given the play off final, opening friendly, other big games, that has to include 99% of all likely members. basically the loyalty points seems to be working fine, so why mess about?

i dont see this is going to increase revenue anyway. if i'm asked to up front £20-30 i'm likely not going to affording something else, or im not going to pay at all. come the first big game where its needed and i'm going to baulk at the £55-65 cost, so wont go. this potentily loses fans and revenue.

I think it's more than an idea.

Why announce it on the website otherwise?

Oh, and the timing of this is crap too.

Barber has to remember hat we are not Spurs with 40,000 people on the St waiting list.

Whilst he may be Bloom's man, he cannot be given free reign to do what he wants. Poyet can be, and has been an arse, and when he opens his mouth frequently is, but I'm pretty sure that barber is a fairly easy person to fall out with.
