Membership scheme announced...

It's not though, is it?

I think it would look pretty foolish to complain about an unnamed scheme, with unknown terms that affects each of us in a way yet to be announced.

Why not just announce it when it's ready to avoid all the speculation?

what does this mean more holistic view of how its supporters interact with the club. The existing loyalty points system will be retained and will be incorporated within the scheme.

I pay enough for my season ticket, as far as I'm concerned I get some sort of priority to a certain degree, so why should it cost extra for me and the 23,000 other odd people that commit to the club on a very regular basis?

It appears that the fans have become that holy grail to big business, the cash cow!

OK the full and final details haven't been announced, but it appears we will have to stump up more cash to support this club.

Happy! Not bloody likely!!

You could argue that if the club want to drip feed information ( and they MUST know what the planned scheme is ) then they shouldn't be surprised if fans speculate the worst !

Paying extra on top of a season ticket (if it comes to that) to get higher priority for away games when we hardly sell out, hmmm. Hopefully its better than that.

How did those private seat licences sell again ...

Quite !

If as a ST holder x 2, they try to screw even more out of me, I will be unimpressed to say the least.

FFS, the club has 23000 ST holders, which is the envy of all but a small number of clubs including PL , what more do they plan to do ?

I don't want to knock Paul Barber as I am sure, despite the many offerings on NSC, that he is focused on achieving the best financial results for the club within impending FFP and I am sure he is doing just that, but why do they bring out something like this without even a trace of meat on the bones ?

There was the big interview PB gave a little while back, mentioning FFP and the fact we were losing £8 million a year. It's a bit if we want to compete with the big boys, we have to play like the big boys, financially. Hard to take as it is, we can't be subsidised to participate in The Amex 'experience', as we'd be doomed to be perpetually in the Championship. We are literally betwixt Scylla and Charybdis

I'd assume that anyone and everyone against this has written to him expressing their displeasure.

When we get the FULL details, I will. But, as he is the man with his finger on the pulse, no doubt he will be reading NSC, and perhaps rethink.

He can't be explicit and say: 'I want your money.'

It's a warm phrase to make it sound like he's making a wise decision taking everything into account, and is interested in supporters' relationship with the club. All a smokescreen for rinsing more money out of fans.

This is Brighton and Hove Albion Football Company. That's is football in the modern era, we are not fans we are customers. That's just the nature of the beast and if the club continue to grow and reach the prem. For every one customer that doesn't like it, there will be two to take his place. The club knows this and will therefore play on it. Barber has been bought in to run this company to the best of his ability and his track record shows, he is very good at what he does. It's not personal (well not from his point of view) it's business. This is the thin edge of the wedge really, imagine what would be going on if we had got promotion??? Which will be achieved, sooner or later. A lot of people are going to be priced out of supporting their beloved club. That's football in the modern era and super rich players who couldn't care less about the club's they play for or their fans..It's not nice, it's not right but until the bubble burst's that's the way it's going to be.

Its the sort of thing politicians do , leak snippets of information to test the waters , then judge the adverse reaction and do a re-jig.

Agreed. It doesn't feel like there's much positivity to be had in the world of an Albion fan right now. I wouldn't be leaving a void that could be filled with further negative speculation if I could help it.

Sadly, it appears Barber is playing a PR blinder on this. He's going to upset the fans with scary speculation about what the scheme will involve and then backtrack a bit to give fans the scheme he wanted to give them in the first place.

In all likelihood, they'll be a lot of grumbles on NSC, but enough people who will be footing the bill reluctantly to make the scheme a moneyspinner because they haven't got the organisation or willpower to take any action.

You think it might be a free scheme then do you ? Ok.

I guess that was the point TLO was making is that we don't yet have the details so at this stage there is no point speculating and getting all upset about it just yet? However, the drip, drip drip of information doesn't seem the best tactic although as I said earlier I'm sure they'll adjust things (if they think necessary) once they've judged the reaction (and not just NSC's reaction!) to the 'concept'!

Strange - as someone else has touched on - I paid for a LIFE time membership years ago. The company is still the same one so is Barber seriously wanting to break the sale of goods act ??

The 'lifetime' AWAY Membership Scheme was done away with a long time before Barber arrived. Just so you know.

(But your post does highlight how unnecessary these schemes generally are, probably being required twice a season at most.)

The drip-drip nature of the announcement is very deliberate.

Having just gone through a similar exercise ( for an internal employee brand) that touches 200k people, we provided the focus groups with an overview of the product, the service proposition, the channels, the audience, the benefits and the key changes from what we had currently. This release does some of this but not all. I will reserve judgement until we hear the details.

I'm sure, being a good robust business now rather than a 'cottage industry' or 'vicar of dibley style parish council' that the club are undertaking focus groups as we speak in order to understand what the problem is they're trying to solve with this new product and ensuring it is anchored with the customer experience at the forefront of their solution.
