I still think Hart and Jones are good players and we should keep one of them. Knight should stick around, Cullip is vital, as is Currie, and if Butters could play another year he would be welcome to stay. Kuipers should stay, Roberts might retire anyway, but 14 is a lot and we must be able to get some money to spend from the ones we let go of

Of those that are out of contract, if we could sell them NOW and before their contract runs out as then we will get nothing for them, how many could we sell and for how much?

Very few for very little the only money made would be a saving on the wages.

Here's what I would do:

Kuipers - 2 years
Roberts - out (never fit)
Watson - out
Cullip - 2 years
Butters - 1 year
Mayo - 1 year
Harding - will be sold anyway
Hart - 1 year, he can do a job
Oatway - 1 year
Carpenter - 2 years
Jones - out (and it pains me to say it)
Knight - he won't sign a contract anyway, he's leaving
Currie - 1 year
Reid - out. We have enough midfielders coming through

Rather worried about the two years havent we learnt from past experience.

might get £50K for Cullip from a challenging League 1 side such as Hull, a fee for Harding, and a bit of money for Knight (who we will get a fee for even if he leaves in the summer as he's under 24). The only other out-of-contract player that might command a fee would be Kuipers (also £50K from someone like Hull).

If we let Roberts go because of his injuries we would need to keep Kuipers or we take a chance and sell him and hope that Roberts stays injury free.

I agrre with Cullip possibly £100k if it was Hull and PT knows his abilioty in the lower leagues.

Harding £200k if we are lucky.

Knight £100k to a Div 1 side again proved it at that level (we get £50k)

The rest 10p each.

Knight (Leon before various jump on the bandwagon) will go - can't see him staying around.

there are very few players in our squad that would get a fee, but if we needed to raise a bit of cash our best bet would be PT at Hull. He is about the only manager in that league with money to spend, is trying to get out of League 1 and from his own experience knows that both DC and Kuipers are good enough to help achieve that goal.

I can see Steve Coppell taking a punt on him at Reading as a squad player. He's a decent man-manager so may still be able to get the best out of Knight. The main reason that Leon signed for us was SC. Coppell is a man of integrity and wouldn't have pinched Knight off us last season but I suspect that he realises that there would not be such an outcry amongst albion fans if Knight leaves in the summer(though I hope he stays as he is one of 2 real quality players in the squad, Nicolas being the other).

I also think Knight is a quality player however his patience will wear thin if he continues to play on the right wing.

I just keep hearing the same thing from huddersfield fans, Sheff Weds fans and now a few Brighton fans about his attitude.

:nono:

I heard exactly the same.

New contract offer for McGhee

McGhee is set to stay with Brighton
Brighton chairman Dick Knight intends to offer manager Mark McGhee a new contract in the new year.
McGhee is set to be rewarded for gaining promotion and developing young players such as Adam Virgo and Danny Cullip since taking charge.

"There is an intention to offer Mark a new contract because he deserves it," Knight told The Argus.

"His record speaks for itself and I think he has done an extremely good job in very difficult circumstances."

exactly, that seemed to be the reason for his falling out with Turner at Wednesday. while he may be a 'difficult' character you have to question MM's man-management of him. Surely he must realise that playing him on the wing is unlikely to go down well with Knight. It was the perfect chance for Leon to play with a proper striker for the first time on saturday where he may well of benefitted from Claridges nous and link-up play. Instead he was stranded on the wing 30 yards from Claridge.

Stop splitting hairs :p

:lolol: I presume that is what the article meant to say; Danny Harding.

Currie was given a year's contract with a year extention. How does that work then? Who can invoke the extra year, is it binding on either party?
