Which isn't too bad. The problem is it means the middle of our midfield will go back to being park standard. Not that I rate El Abd too highly in midfield, but he's a million times better than sodding Fraser.

We could have Cox, Martot, Thomson, Westlake which seems a lot more appealing

One of the reasons you had a go at Fraser on another thread was because he didnt make killer passes, unless El Abd has turned into Beckham over night Im sure the same thing could be said of El Abd?

Mayo does JUST enough to make people who should really know better want to give him another season.

Get rid. We can do SO much better.

Yep

Yes, you're right, I wasn't worried about him activating that clause and us HAVING to offer him a new contract. I am just concerned he'll whack two or three good games together and some mug at the club will offer him another year like we have been doing for years. Anyway, I do trust Wilkins on this. He's the first manager who's just banished Mayo to the reserves for months on end. He's done the same with Hart and now it seems Butters, which I don't agree with so much, but it does show he's strong enough to just ignore a player if he feels he's not up to the job, and I think he'll relish the chance to rid himself of the last few players he doesn't want this summer.

agree.

Fair play to himyesterday but over a season he will will do a lot more wrong than right.

Next Saturday, our defence presuming Richards is still injured will be:

El-Abd, Elphick, Butters, Lynch

I SERIOUSLY hope not.

Lynch is a liability at left-back and is a total waste of his talents to put him there.

I'd go Fraser, Elphick, Lynch, Mayo. For me, El-Abd's recent good form has been because he is operating in the thick of it. I'd leave El-Abd in the middle of midfield where he can do some reet-good shit-kicking. Fraser isn't necessarily the best choice for right-back, but his tenacity in the challenge would make him as good a candidate as anyone.

Went on the Gills rivals site to laugh at their predicament and there's a press rumour on there linking him with a return to the Priestfield.

Laughing at the Gills? That's not very nice!!! ;)

I still think Rents is due another chance.

I believe there has been interest from various clubs for his services.

I heard this was one of 'em
