But am I right in thinking this is all speculation based on one article in one newspaper - the Daily Mail. Or does anybody KNOW any more. I'm not a "no smoke without fire" sort of person so my inclination is to take it all with a pinch of salt.

It is a fairly easy conclusion to jump to ( I certainly did). So could just be a load of bollocks.

A friend of mine knows someone who played with him at Brentford, and the friend told me a year or so ago that Maupay was labelled as a bit of a prick. If that is the case, then i do wonder about our no dickheads policy and how poorly that is overseen or administered. Of course, football without bigheads or buffoons is an impossibility, and maturity itself seems a rarity for these sometimes entertaining clowns, but i do want us to have a general sense to our identity which seems intermittently apparent from the board down, which all have to work on to keep this ship steady and happy.

I like Maupay as a player generally, but he seems a log way from the finished article. His workrate is generally higher than his skill level, and i would say it is best to remember that is why is where he is.

For a bit of balance, after the Bournemouth game last season he was happy to have pictures with and talk to my son and his mates after the game (probably helped that we'd won) and he played video games with young Brighton fans after his FIFA tournament match in lockdown. My son worships him.

Us adults all know he's a bit of a wind up merchant but he's our wind up merchant and, like Knocky, I think taking that out of him would diminish his on field effectiveness.

We have a couple of billy big bollox in our lads' team. One is verbal and mouthy; the other tries to destroy other players with criticism. Both have been dropped and told why and both had responded better when they next played.
Attitude IMO is everything in a squad, and there is only one boss, and surprisingly he is the manager.

My take:

1. A lot of experienced players / Albion stalwarts have left in a short period of time: Murray, Duffy, Stephens in particular, but also Montoya and Mooy too - this has left something of a vacuum.
2. Ryan's position was undermined by our move to sign Martinez from Arsenal, his standing has been diminished.
3. Other players are now vying to fill that power vacuum and the whole thing needs to settle down.

Competition for places is all well and good but a settled line-up will make the place a lot more stable.

Potter has earned the right to be respected by the players by last season's decent finish and best ever Prem points haul. However, the tactics vs WBA in the second half were a mistake, the selection vs Spurs was a mistake - if he had a beef with Maupay and Connolly he should have started Welbeck and subbed him for Zuqiri if necessary.

However, he needs to manage Maupay and Connolly, because them combining as a pair are our best chance of turning all this possession into goals. We need the back 3 to gel, Dunk to get his mojo back and Lallana to stay fit and be the midfield general.

I agree but not if his shithousery is anyway aimed at Potter or the club then it’s a big no no. I reckon we’ll be hard pushed to know for sure.

He's never once tried to sneak a 12th player on either. I think one of the subs warming up could easily slip into the game, and we could go 3-2-4-2. Give us a much better chance of scoring.
