Everyone is capable of being a dick given the right set of circumstances, Ryan no exception. You can see in his steely gaze that he probably doesn’t suffer fools, but at the end of the day it’s all conjecture, none of us know anything.

Well if he were to be a dick, he would do it in a totally professional way.

Curiouser and curiouser - 4th choice for Brighton, 2nd choice for Arsenal. Sad that a guy with a positive attitude and real connection to the supporters has fallen out so badly with someone, that he is exiled so viciously. Would be very surprised if he fell foul of the "no d*ckheads" rule, and no doubt the truth will come out eventually.

Potter has made a few brave calls - and I'm still not sure whether he is actually brilliant (as Guardiola seems to think) or is really the clueless tinkerman, or perhaps the open-mouthed confused scarecrow that we often see on the touchline.
Time will tell - probably quite quickly - even despite being given the longest contract in the history of lengthy contracts. Or maybe Moises Caicedo can also play in goal ?

When you say the manager has decided, it's quite possible, in fact probable, that he actually talked to Maty about the situation and a perfectly amicable solution was found about the parting of the ways, if that is what is happening.

And if the Andone mention is about him going out on loan, that was under Potter, after he needlessly kicked a Southampton player up in the air. It says something for Potter that Andone is back with us now, having seemingly burnt his bridges, and we are looking after him and he seems happy..... but we shall see.

A sensible reply.

Doesn't seem at all a great move to me.

Ryan wants first team football to retain his place in the Australian team (or so we all assume) so goes to sit on the bench at Arsenal. Doesn't make sense.

We don't want him any more - so why can't we f***in' sell anybody instead of fannying about loaning them? First Duffy and now Ryan - should have sold them both and banked some cash. IMHO that is - I realise other opinions are available!

To sell players other clubs need to want to buy them! moreover at sensible fees agreeable to both clubs, that's often far from easy, especially with only, in Ryan's case, little more than a week left on the transfer window. Better a loan move than no move at all.

Agree that selling might be a better option, but maybe nobody actually wanted to commit to a purchase.

Blimey indeed, more importantly who are they going to loan to us?

Being dropped for Spurs away was clearly a warning to Ryan, obviously it was a warning he didn’t take seriously enough. Whether that was about performance levels, training levels, attitude etc is something we’ll probably never know.

So far there have been only a few signings in the Premier League and almost all (and I mean 99%) have been loan or free transfers. It's almost like there's some kind of problem out there that makes teams reticent to outlay huge amounts of money on, say, a back up 'keeper.

our pursuit of martinez in the summer and the injury of Walton in pre-season i think tells us a few things and also disrupted the plan.

Walton was being lined up to be #2 or to competeffor that with Sanchez - no more loans for him.
Button and Steele were being lined up to leave (Button eventually did) if we landed a Ryan replacement. Perhaps they both would have gone if Walton had not been injured.
Thus Potter had concluded - in the summer - that he'd reached the end of the road with Ryan - the club is pretty stats driven and his don't look great.

Sanchez has been a revelation in my view so perhaps the idea we need a big name signing has now receded.
Walton and Steele are solid back ups so i imagine they'll take stock again in the summer.

Thought that might happen. Their number two is terrible

Not really.

Sanchez
Walton
Steele

All very capable.

I disagree.

Sanchez looks (very)promising but he's massively inexperienced. A loss of form wouldn't be unusual. That or a red card or injury would see one of the other two playing premier league football. Steele is not a premier league calibre goalkeeper. As for Walton, sadly nothing I've seen or read about him suggests to me that he is a premier league level keeper either.

So what we're left with is a young, inexperienced keeper who looks the part and two keepers who are more experienced but not good enough for premier league level. And, yes, that's my opinion but even if you take the opinion that they could be good enough as far as I'm aware neither of them has played a minute of premier league football.

That to me is a precarious situation for what is one of, if not the, most important positions on the pitch.

There was the falling out, but Maupay was back in the team and squad. So why cut out Ryan, unless he called Potter a ****.

Cause we need Maupay (I know) more than we need Ryan right now I guess

When is his contract up, please don’t say the summer?

He will hopefully be worth more after a few EL/FAC games with Arsenal (if they don’t want him.)

He’s been amazing for us until recently. Especially under Hughton’s all out defensive tactics...I don’t think anyone can argue with that, but I think our recent formation(s) left him more exposed and required more of him.

Walton is 25, has played over 100 games in the Championship and has caps for England u21.

I get that but he's never played PL football and has had some pretty mixed reviews in the Championship. Steele hasn't got a great record and, personally, I'd be mortified if we had him in goal in the Championship let alone the PL. Sanchez looks great but he's very young and inexperienced. If he goes through a rough patch or gets injured I'd be really concerned. We need more senior cover and competiton.
