Based on the fact Tony Bloom paid a load of cash for him! 🤯

Tony is a very shrewd and tight business man that doesn't do things based on a hunch. He'd of had reems of data, plus scouts and direct reports from very knowledgeable people he trusts. He definitely knows more than us, to convince him spunk millions of his own money on the guy.

Now I'm not saying we get all signings right, but when a guy has played approximately 5 mins for us - which involved scoring, a horrendous injury, and f*** all minutes since - it only feels right to reserve judgement and be positive and optimistic.

It's easy to be negative, but much nicer to assume the positive.

My assumption, is:
  • Tony is a likely a better judge of a player he's spent millions on, than we can be after watching him play for minutes.
  • Tony is probably aware of the quality of Scottish football
Hopefully neither of those two statements are controversial? 🤷‍♂️😂

If so let's have some faith
Oh come on.
For whatever reason O’Riley has obviously had a disappointing season. He , nor Tony, would deny otherwise .

The injury he has had mean that no judgements can be really made for the first half of the season.

For the second half, he's been in and out with injury, so again it's hard to say, but one worry is that i'm pretty sure Hurzeler had a go at him for his work rate in one of the home games, then he hasn't been seen much since.

I think he's got to get fit, stay fit and play for a while before you can conclude anything

Jakhanbash, that was nearly 4 years ago are we always going to mention these 2. If so it seems that we are getting even better at dodging the crappy signings.
True, but the point remains not everyone is a winner.

So we can’t say he is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ as we stand.

He's clearly good enough for Tony to put his own money behind him.

Will he make it for us, who knows, same as Ferdi, but I'll be a positive supporter and give the guy a chance.

And speaking of positivity, no it's not about closing down forum discussion. I bloody love good healthy discussion. But it's about giving people a fair chance.

Same with all the new signings, the manager, senior staff or whoever. I feel as a supporter we should support the team and give people a chance before we write them off.

We clearly can't judge this player yet as he's been injured.

I've absolutely no idea if he'll be our next "Jakhanbash" (which as someone else said is a boring 4 year old reference). Let's hope not, but the idea that you, I or anyone here can work out he's crap, when he's been injured or on the bench, compared to the money and time spent by the genuine experts in our recruitment team is laughable.

Has it been disappointing? Yeah watching Crawley nearly destroy someone's career is disappointing.

Would it be nice to see him more? Yes, as with Ferdi and half the squad that's been injured.

Am I disappointed he now might struggle to get into the first team because our other players are playing so bloody well? Well, less so.

Any player (perhaps Gomez the exception) needs a decent run in the team before we'll know where they sit.

All I ask is we don't write players off immediately. Our model means getting people from other leagues, or younger players and adapting them to the PL. That takes time so let's give the guy a chance.

Find myself referring to him as luxury Matt O'Riley. Sure he needs more time/opportunity, but he needs to get far more involved off the ball to get those opportunities.

He hasn't had a disappointing season, he's had no season at all.

I completely agree that he (and presumably Tony) will have been disappointed that he hasn't had the opportunity to show us what he's capable of.

At this point in time, I don't think we can make any judgement. But we can hope that he gets fit, gets strong and makes a massive impression on the Prem.

This.

To date he looks a poor signing. His build is a worry. Not sure he is Premier league quality. Considering he is in his prime not good.

Then you’re completely missing my point.

This isn’t about writing him off, as I’ve repeatedly said it’s simply too early to judge, in response to your initial comment about him being a ‘good player’.

He simply hasn’t proven whether he’s good, bad, average or otherwise at this level, he did in Scotland absolutely no doubt, but that is completely different.

Whether he’s being carefully managed or otherwise, he’s not starting very often so perhaps FH doesn’t fancy him I don’t know. Hopefully, he’ll have a good preseason and can effectively start again.

Everyone should Feel free Why not . Nothing stopping you, me or anyone else having their opinion , it’s always a good read.
Yes, (and absolutely fair point), but it’s also about debate, which surely in this case is difficult because he hasn’t been playing, so is it possible to judge either way at this level?

Agreed. Like Kadioglu , they've both had a couple of moments (the Liverpool goal, the City goal) - but really hard to make a judgement. Ferdi and O Riley have both started just 5 games.
Exactly.

Too soon to say.

So let's be positive and optimistic, as makes this forum far more enjoyable haven with all the shit going on in the wider world. 🙏

I predicted he would be the best of the summer signings having seen him for Celtic quite a bit.
That’s looking a stretch but he can definitely be a standout player for us.
