Quite surprised he didn't tough it out, clearly this was too toxic

Aside from my personal feelings on this scandal (those being he is a hypocrite who should have been fired, let alone asked to resign).

It's quite an interesting lesson in how to handle an attempted "cancellation". "I apologise, that's the end of it, there will be no further comment". Amazed people don't actually use this more. The amount of times I see people fold under pressure from a viral mob in the news, and apologise and give the "learnt a lot, etc, re-examine my conduct etc" is unreal. The few cases I can remember where people just said "Yeah. I said that." and moved on is few. But it seems rather effective.

If I had a mob baying for my blood I'd head to the Winchester, grab a pint and wait for the whole thing to blow over.

Tory MP's are coated in Teflon, then well lubed with snake oil

. They're univerally dodgy, 2 faced lying cheating *****. The fact they convince people to vote for them merely confirms they're either stupid, selfish, or both.

FWLIW I don't have much time for Labour, but at least some of them have a soul and actually tell the truth . . . But thats not been fashionable for decades now.

What on earth does your reply have to do with my post?!

Too easy

I don't think he knows what sincerity means.

Still, he's cut BoJo some more slack.

As if his Churchill Cut Suit wasn't slack enough already.

Unlikely, Health and the NHS is usually a poisoned chalice for a politician.

If Johnson wants to put him somewhere where he might be less of a threat, though, a difficult Ministry like Health could be one. Some commentators think Dominic Cummings is a front man for Gove, and is angling to get him the top job. If Johnson wasn't worried about Gove, he might have given him the Foreign Secretary's job when he took over. Like him or loathe him, ignoring Education, where he clearly put a lot of people's backs up, he has been one of the more competent Ministers, especially at the Ministry of Justice, where he was beginning to clear up the mess the department was in. Don't worry - I'm not a fan (I am a supporter of people such as Rory Stewart and Dominic Grieve, and to me Gove was the real architect of Brexit, not Johnson), but I think people underestimate him at their peril.

" Building back better " is not the slogan you expect from a resigning Health Secretary, this is merely sucking up to Johnson and crawling up his arse in the hope he gets rotated back in to the Cabinet after a couple of years when the dust has settled. See Patel, P
