Clear goalscoring opportunity and no attempt made to play the ball? Nah don’t fancy giving a red...

We were told it was going to be used for clearing up clear and obvious errors ie stuff like Henry’s handball vs Ireland, or Luis Garcia’s ghost goal.

That is true, for everything except offside, which is a binary yes/no decision. It is how VAR has been used from the start, we just don’t know about it here because we are very late in using it.

They should use VAR like in cricket where its Umpires call on close decisions.

100% this.

I was pro-VAR when announced, but completely anti how it is being applied.

It wasn’t an obvious error to give that onside. No chance. It was borderline and should stay with the ref’s decision.

Yes, it was borderline. But it was offside. Marginally.

My point was that I don't think they use 'clear and obvious error' when checking for offside, they just decide if it is or isn't.
