no its shut for repairs and it will be for some time
Only the West arm is shut, the East arm is still open all year round subject to weather conditions.

I was a member of Seaford a few years ago...fished the old river and michlem priory a lot
Something i've always wanted to do too. I used to tie thousands of flies for people but never used them myself. The thought of standing round a huge resevoir like you're mackerel fishing off the marina fills me with dread though to be honest.
Fly fishing should be done on a lovely chalk stream in somewhere like Hampshire in may or june....spot a fish rise and cast to it....man against nature.
Loads of coarse fishing when I was a kid and got back into sea fishing last year, though only from the marina arm. Don't suppose anyone knows if it will be open this summer?
Have just signed up for a fly fishing "beginners' day" at Arlington Reservoir too, which is something I've always rather fancied.
Agree entirely, but you need a salary in the high six figures to get within five miles of most of those places. Will just have to get a crash course in fly casting at Arlington, and then consider a career move, into poaching.
anyone fished passies ponds at shoreham?
do you fish the main lake or the match canal, what tactics/bait do you use?
Mostly in the main lake, I'll use marine hallibut pellets or luncheon meat on the hair rig for carp or sweercorn, maggots or soft hook pellets for float fishing. I must admit i'm more of a sea fisherman than coarse but coarse fishing is a good alternative for a shift worker because your not having to rely on tide times.
I just don't get coarse fishing - I like to catch fish I could possibly eat (although most of the stuff I catch in the sea is too small!!). Also, I like the fact that in the sea you could conceivably catch just about anything (within reason).
I like coarse fishing for relaxation but as you say it's nice to take a fish home to eat occasionaly. I caught a 6lb Bass off Shoreham beach last year ( my 1st decent one efter years of trying ) and that made wonderful eating.
Some years ago now I caught a 7lb Bass from Soldier's Point - that was lovely to eat.
My best fish was a 7lb wild Atlantic Salmon i caught on a lure, in Western Ireland when I was much younger - what a beautiful fish that was. I hooked a bigger one in exactly the same spot the next day, but that one got away
The one that got away! I think we've all got tales of that one.
I would love to have a go at fishing for Salmon and Trout but that might have to go on hold until I retire.
I do a lot of fishing (both sea and freshwater). If im fishing for Carp i tend to go to Mill farm which is between Bury and Fittleworth but sea fishing is my passion.
I have a good friend who has an Orkney Longliner and we go out all year round.
The best ever day we had was a couple of years back when i caught 6 Bass all over 7lbs (the biggest over 10) from head to tail it covered 3 dinner plates!
Nice... Bass fishing is my true sea fishing passion... they are such wonderful and elusive fish, but with a young family I don't get much chance to go fishing nowadays.
Bass are beautiful. I could never eat one I had caught.
