I keep being told it's getting cold there but the last time I looked it was 28 ! I am bringing her indoors various warm items of clothing for her presents but she has no clue !

My brother lives in Prince Edward County, right on the shore of Lake Ontario, I'm ringing him later today so I'll post a first hand report from him later. He probably won't get too excited about it, they're a tough old bunch the Canadians.
I Was over there in Feb 2004, rang him the night before we flew out to ask what the weather was like. "Oh, not too bad, bit of snow about, temperature's about minus 20", "minus 20!" you're having a laugh aren't you? He wasn't, it was minus 20, but by the time we'd landed the wind had got up and the windchill factor had brought it down to feeling like minus 35!!!

My fiancé lives near Rochester NY and there has been a severe warning for the whole of Livingston County. 1 to 2 ft of snow expected to fall today. Grrr I have a snowmobile sitting in my garage and cannot get out there to use it

Snowing pretty steadily in Parry Sound right now. [As if we haven't enough here already} I can't go out anyway, as I failed the Seniors Vision Test a couple of weeks ago, so my licence is in limbo.
At least the Liquor store is only a few steps away.
YORKIE, if you sing another song like that I'll come over there and drop some Ontario ice cubes down your neck.

I guess Rochester is really in the direct line of Lake Effect snow when the North wind comes across Lake Ontario
For the benefit of those who live in warmer climes, Lake Effect Snow is when it is cold enough for snow, and the wid whips across the Great Lakes, not yet frozen over. The wind picks up the moisture from the lake, and then drops it as snow on poor unsuspecting places like Rochester and Buffalo.
So now children the next time you are in the Sportsman for a pre game jar, and someone says, "What the hell is Lake Effect snow," you will be able to tell them.
