Surely Man utd, should just sack him? The reputational loss by keeping him will surely be more than any transfer fee loss

The charges were dismissed because the defendant dropped them. He was then told off for having inappropriate contact with her.

Anyone who has heard the recordings will have made their own mind up on what happened. Disgusting piece of filth.
I get the point you are making but the victim was never a Defendant.

Having previously heard the recording I cannot believe this is even a discussion at Manchester United and the fact there is even talk of him coming back shows how low the moral compass in football has fallen. I would be disgusted with the Albion if we were doing what United are doing and I think this is huge PR f*** up for them and think they are underestimating the backlash.

I often base my life decisions on what Rachel Riley thinks so let's go with her verdict.
Seems unnecessarily flip. The headline I saw was her saying she would stop supporting ManU if Greenwood stayed. If she’s anything like representative of the fanbase — certainly the female side of the fanbase — it will have sent a chill through their PR and marketing departments. As a fan and as a woman, her opinion is valuable. Even the home fans were demonstrating last week. Imagine the hostility at away grounds if he ever appeared. Forget his impact on the team, the damage to the Manchester United brand would be colossal, with advertisers and sponsors pulling out.

It’s obvious that he'll never play for them again and I’m surprised that management at the club even considered it a possibility.

I hate to feel some sympathy for Man Utd, but I do with this situation. In the eyes of the law (and I assume contract law) they can't simply cancel his contract as he hasn't been found guilty of any crime. On the other hand, there's no way he can play for the club again and no decent club are going to want him. So United are a bit stuck.

They should really have just let his contract run out without playing him and not commented further. Pretty much what City did with Mendy

The video is genuine and on that evidence alone should never play again in uk. I think what was seen was so bad that it would justify a complete boycott of any game he played in.
There must be loads of men that are never prosecuted because victim does not want to go through experience of pressing charges. It doesnt mean I would employ them.

Can an internal investigation not come to a conclusion of guilt or breach of contract?

e.g if I make some lewd comments on social media - I may not be taken to court but I would be surprised to not lose my job if my employer came across them.

Interesting he’s back with the women and they are having a baby

Audio sounds very bad but guess don’t know whole story . Clearly mistakes made . She’s forgiven him .

I'm no lawyer, but I don't see how he could have his contract cancelled. He would argue that his ex-girlfriend posted one-sided stuff on Social Media and he didn't do anything, and as he's never been found Guilty he would legally be correct. Don't get me wrong, everyone knows he's guilty but the law won't see it that way.

Anyway, he's f*cked. And rightly so. Just a shame he'll earn all that money from his existing contract

A few seem to be acting like it was a one off. The fact she recorded it suggests it very much wasn't, and there are suggestions this pattern of abuse was going on for years. That's not a "mistake in the heat of the moment", is it?

Every decent human being has to make his, man United and all their sponsors lives intolerable if they keep him. If they can’t see a morale reason for sacking him, then I cannot understand how on a purely commercial basis Man Utd don’t realise the brand damage this will do.

Greenwood is a piece of s**t who should have been dismissed immediately. That United are even contemplating keeping him is a stain on their character.

I can understand there maybe legal ramifications for terminating his contract so I can forgive the faffing around on that account, but should they be able to resolve that he should be gone.

United would be mental to let him back into the club, I cant see him having a career anywhere in England. He may be able to go play abroad somewhere.

Was he not also one of those who got caught shagging in Iceland with Phil Foden? sneaking out to meet girls or sneaking them into the hotel?
