Who was Mark Field exactly to decide who should be there or who shouldn't, and how any so called trespass was managed? He hasn't been trained, its not his event, there were even security there dealing with things. If you watch the full video things had been going on for a while before the incident, it was clear what these women were there for and that they posed no threat, he wasn't protecting himself or others, he had a few sherries and was annoyed that someone was spoiling his night and thought he would be the big man by grabbing a woman around the neck. What an utter moron!

Yes. I think we are all getting a bit tied up in whataboutery. Your post returns us to the reality of the situation. Thank you.

Gender has a lot to do with it because of the inequality of strength.

Rubbish - the bouncers on pub doors are generally double my size. Does that mean I should get some 'get out of jail' card if they have to eject me ?

Can agree with a lot of what you say (back of neck important though). Not seen any other footage but I’d say it was pretty clear to all at the event that the protesters weren’t meant to be there. I don’t have a clue who the bloke is and could well be a nasty **** but what I’m saying is I don’t see a lot wrong and the outcry of exaggeration just sums up the social media society we live in for me.

Yes. When most people think about equal rights it's about being treated the same, free from persecution. Not, I suspect, how much or little you can physically push a woman in an evening dress about.

Just to confirm, I’m a pacivist and don’t agree with any form of my perception of violence. This to me didn’t constitute violence though. That’s my opinion, end of... I’m allowed that... And she was in the wrong for trespassing so ran the risk of being escorted out with reasonable force. We’re getting away from the point anyway - I don’t often have big opinions on stuff like this but just can’t see what the fuss is about and how gender really comes into it.

Psst It is pacifist.

PPS It was not reasonable force which is the whole debate here.

She would have had more of a legal right to defend herself against him than he had to lay hands on her. If she'd lashed out in self defense and broken his nose, there'd be very little he could do about it from a legal standpoint.

Look at the longer footage and you may well come to a different conclusion.

In the longer footage and indeed the short footage, nobody else is panicking, nobody else is grabbing necks or pushing and shoving. Not even the security. There are other protestors in the hall. Nobody is recoiling in horror or screaming. So, even security doesn't feel the need to launch at them, nobody else in the room does, except this one individual. Hmmm.

It isn't essential to come to a view about the 'rights' and 'wrongs' of this skirmish. I can honestly see some validity in the opposing arguments.
But....
I know from my professional life that what Mark Field did does in law constitute low level assault, whatever we may feel about it.

No - but the example you raise, carries exactly the same assessment - that the relative size and strength of the restrainer / restrainee are important factors in determining what constitutes 'reasonable force'.

There's a lifetime's worth of pent-up rage right there in that gammon common assault. Genuinely scarey stuff. First thing he does is grab her by the neck. Still, could have been worse. Could have been Trump doing the grabbing...

I've seen the incident on video several times. There was some annoyance and dare I say anger showing on his face, but do I blame him for stopping her.....no. There were many senior people in the room, who knows what she was going to do, gun, knife, acid, milkshake?. If you are prepared to invade a private function with government ministers and other senior public officials present you should expect to be taken down.

Its a bit shocking the protesters got that far anyway what on earth was the security detail doing?

Nah - not for me. If it was your wedding or party and an ex came uninvited to cause a scene, you’d probably not think twice about getting her out of there ASAP - was a split second decisions and a huge social media lead overreaction for me.

Huge social media overreaction to which you have replied over 20 times on this thread already. :lolol:

Exactly. If a 10 st tiddler was bent up by two 6’6”, roided up bohemoths and shoved about, the law would take relative size and strength of everyone involved into account. Just a stone cold fact. And a bloody sensible one too.
Though one could argue that a weed who’d have to run about in the shower to get wet, shouldn’t go about antagonising door monsters :)
