Great job . Yes he earns about £5 m a year which helps but plenty of other wealthy footballers don’t do a huge amount to help underprivileged kids although I know some do .

So basically you are saying 'great job', but reducing respect on account of his earnings, then suggesting that plenty of other wealthy footballers, who you know nothing of, don't do much to help out.

To give you an example. I donated by 'virtual' Grand National winnings to a local charity. When I went onto a collection page I saw that a person with the same name as a Brighton footballer had just given a large sum of money to this little known organisation. It became clear to me that it is likely that, as well as paying half their wages to the taxman, nearly all player's generosity will go unnoticed.

So before we make sweeping statements at players we are delighted to hear about signing new and abundant contracts, perhaps we should take time to realise we know nothing of their personal circumstances or charitable works.

Considering the amount of tax the government collect from PL footballers alone, shouldn’t they be the ones making sure no child is hungry? They won’t though prefer to waste millions on shite.

Marcus nor the other footballers had any fun making those children currently in poverty. It isn't their responsibility.

Feeding those kids is an investment in everyone's future. Those kids are the ones who will be paying their Taxes to cover me people like me and my State Pension when I retire.

This is a real problem in Lancing where I live many families rely upon food banks and free school meals which of course are not available during school holidays, thankfully last summer all the local churches each put on one meal a week for families that otherwise would go hungry and I assume the same will be available this year. Please Support such ventures when food shopping add a couple of items to drop into the food bank trolley on the way out

No those kids wont have to support us with their tax. This is a neo-liberal myth. Tax doesn`t pay for government spending. A government such as ours with its own sovereign currency neither has to tax or borrow. Its not like a household, a local council, a nation in the Eurozone, or a firm, which do have to balance their books. Our government creates new money when it spends and destroys it when it taxes. Thats why tax is called revenue (it returns to the government).

It was a strange thing for the government to fight. In relative terms, it would have cost little to implement (rather like health treatment for NHS workers) but that small amount would have done a lot of good AND be seen as a popular move. By making a stand on it - and then making a U-turn, it makes the government look both hard-hearted and indecisive. Who the hell is advising this government on PR? They're getting just about everything wrong

That's not to diminish the initiative by Marcus Rashford - top lad. We haven't had many sportspeople going into politics - and when they do, they're generally Tory, but I can see him as a future Labour MP. If I were high up in the party, I'd be having a quiet word now
