If the club's level of ambition is not up to signing Painter, I doubt we're going to be able to attract a half decent striker to the club for next season. Let's hope both Painter and the club are simply posturing at the moment. Can't beleive Painter would say no to us when his stint at the club has done so much to elevate his career from the depths of Swansea's reserves.

If he doesn't sign it won't be a disaster. We have to do what's right for the club, and that's not offering more than we can afford. He might think he'll get other offers and wants to leave himself open to them for a short while, offers from clubs in the Championship. If he says no, which will be sad, there'll be plenty more fish in the sea to gamble on.

I do not think the issue is about the 'attactiveness' of the club it is about money. Painter was on premiership then championship wages. We are not suddenly going to pay a LB 8K a week - in a couple of weeks the shops are open and there will be quite a selection. However we may pay big wages for a 20 goal a season striker.

I want him to sign but not a disaster if he doesn't.

I'm not sure why anyone would be happy with McNulty as 1st choice for next season. He has not done enough to suggest he is over his very serious injury, I would not want him as no 1 choice until he does, personally. Hasn't he made noises about wanting to stay at Scunthorpe anyway?

Sums it up for me too.

He's the type of player we want and need next season but there'll be loads of his calibre available very soon. Don't get too greedy Marcos. A season at Withdean shouldn't be an issue for any new player looking for a long term deal at The Albion-look what's awaiting them in year 2.

Before we start getting on the guy's back, dont you think we need to see proof that this has actually happened.
I haven't seen anything about this anywhere.

he may sign or he may not. I would have thought this is a common part of negotiations.

Exactly,I expect whatever we offered him ,his agent would turn it down to start with.

Bit of a disaster if he doesn't sign IMO

Would be a shame, but no disaster. It would be a disaster if we agreed silly money with him, as word would get around very quickly and we'd either not be able to afford all the players we need, or we'd risk our financial future having to pay over the odds to everyone.

In Gus we trust.

He is also married to Jimmy McNulty. Don't want to be cynical, but is it possible this is the source? And what might be WJ's motivastion for putting this in the public domain? I'm sure it's purely with a view to sharing the inside info!

Needs to be a feature next season for our promotion push. However Bloom is the daddy at the end of the day, and from what he and Poyet seem to say, they despise AGENTS. Theving cnuts they are.

Anyway, with Virgo off,(free's up the cash?) I would make a move on painter, being only 23, and a great asset at this level.

Go on Bloom you old devil. Get that parker pen out.

All depends on what his wages are at Swansea as another Championship club would probably match it.
