No chance. We only paid £900k for Veltman and he is a far better player than Cucurella.

I am surprised at the how quickly the Chelsea fans have turned against Potter and a number of their players. There is not much wrong that the return of Reece James and a January signing or two can't put right, while they still have players that can produce a solo goal out of nothing, i.e. Havertz recent winner vs Red Bull Salzburg.

suprises how quickly the Chelsea fans have turned? I got the impression that plenty were distinctly underwhelmed in the first place and were possibly even willing him to fail.

And there were plenty of people on here who were asking whether we were doing the right thing - another Hyppia - before we smashed Chelsea, showed great character in overturning Wolves and shocked Arsenal while all the while winning praise from the pundits.

I read an article about Cucurella just after he went to Chelsea where they talked to a coach from one of the clubs he had been at in Spain early on. He said he wasn’t that good a player, but was ambitious, worked hard and listened, 8mplying he was good at taking advice.

To be fair to Cucurella, he was QUALITY for us from day one. That's why his leaving hit so hard. A shame (kinda) to see how much he has regressed this season

Early days still. so let's wait and see. I agree though that the Chelsea dressing room is chock full of premadonnas, so getting his methods and work ethic through to them could prove to be a problem, and is essential if he is to succeed.

For any team or business, it’s vital that the leadership set very clear context and expectations to the staff / fans / customers / etc.

Boehly saying he expects them to be top four but not the end of Potter if they aren’t does not help at all. He should be very, very clear that they have a vision to bring long term success to the club, and this sort of strategy requires time. He should publicly back the manager he has committed so much money to. “We are at the very start of a new era for this club. We have boldly moved for a young, progressive manager, who knows what he is doing but needs time to implement a new style. We are changing our playing style and over the next few seasons will need to transition the team’s roles to support our new approach. Obviously this will mean changes to the playing staff, but this cannot happen in one go. These sorts of changes take time and must be done in a safe and sustainable manner. There are bound to be some difficult periods, and we may well drop out of top four contention for a season or two. That is ok. We are building a future where Chelsea will straddle Europe and become the envy of the footballing world. We aren’t here for a once in two decades moment.” Etc

Some sort of crap like that. More concise and playing to all their triggers of course. Maybe get in a few digs at other London clubs. They’ll love that.

The alternative is exposing Potter and the team to endless criticism. The owners job is to protect them and very loudly support them to do their job. You know, a bit like Bloom and Barber do.

But I don’t want either of them to horribly fail. Potter is still a nice guy and a great football manager. I actually want him to do well enough to get the England job in a few years. Would love to see how he did.

Obviously I’d like RdZ to do considerably better, but that’s not dependant on Potter failing.

I think the comments he are making are just gut reactions to interview questions. Remember he is trying to keep fans inside and can’t very well gush about Brighton, that won’t endear him to Chelsea fans, especially after we smashed them. He’s no doubt under immense pressure - yes he chose that - but I don’t think it’s worth taking offense.

I know I’m wasting my fingers but I prefer to be magnanimous. In many ways it makes Potter and crew look all the more foolish.

Potter is a nice guy, but right now has become a little bit full of himself, and a little hurt at not being loved still by the fans he rejected. He kept telling us, and now Chelsea fans, how you have to suffer sometimes but you learn from it, you learn from mistakes etc. we just want him to get a very very very good education at Chelsea, it will be good for him, he says so himself. He can then take the lessons he has learned into his next job.

Chelsea’s offer gave TB no choice, it was a no-brainier to cash in, especially with the recruitment team whispering in his ear that they could get Perv in.

I would not have booed Cucu if it wasn’t for the mass Chelsea exodus he was a part of. I don’t blame him that much and would take him back in a heartbeat for anything under £20m.

Interesting your last paragraph, RDZ rightly kept with Potters line up for a few games before changing things for Chelsea.
