I agree with this.

And I think loaning players out will be Chelsea's strategy with all their flops. But the issue is finding someone who will pay 80%+ of the wages they pay. I bet Chelsea doubled what he was on here when he signed for them. This takes us out of the equation. More likely it will be someone like Newcastle.

Personally I don't really want the fella back, but yeh i'd swallow it and get behind him if it came to pass. I absolutely hope and think we'll be looking at Barco first and I don't doubt we also have less high profile targets. We need someone in this position.

So the question isn't, what would the transfer fee be? It's more like, what would they have to pay us to take that contract off their hands? Like a reverse transfer fee. If Chelsea offered us that player on that contract, plus £20m, i'm not sure we'd accept it. It might have to be more like, the player plus £30m?

I can't think of a better signing as a backup for Pervis. But I can't imagine he'd be happy to do that.

Fans definitely over-estimate the issues around someone like him coming back. I would have thought Bloom / Barber and most of the squad were very happy with the way he left and how it worked out financially, it's only the fans it would be an issue with. And we all know how fickle football fans are.

Agreed. After all Glen Murray came back and was welcomed with open arms - and he went to Palace! Some fans might have an issue with the fact that, unlike Murray, he agitated to leave, but players can and do go back. As fans I don't think we should be so precious as to how professional footballers go about earning a living, but of course we are, it is about emotions and feelings after all.

I do think as far as Cucu coming back though the ship has sailed, for the reasons you and others have said.

That's more than likely. If a club values the talent of a player enough that they're prepared to pay a £60m transfer fee, then the player's agent will be negotiating a weekly wage commensurate with that.

Problem is for them he isn’t the only player on a stupidly long term contract and a massive wage that isn’t performing - their recruitment and contract strategy appears to be coming back to bite them on the arse much quicker than any of us hoped. They’re going to be forced into selling academy products to balance the books, and they won’t be able to spend much more money until they do.

The issue being that if they’ve done well at a high enough level for us to consider them ready for the Premier League, they would likely cost more than we’d be willing to pay. I’m thinking of Gyokeres here really, with prices of £40m+ being put around.
