Well, that was an experience! Took my first gel at 14 miles and had horrendous stomach cramps and the need to vomit from there on in. I managed it to a certain degree, I got home in 3:46.
The stomach issues were soon sorted when my wife bought me a nice cup of tea.
Well done to everyone who took part today. A fine effort all round.

I was going well but at 18 miles thought I should keep an eye out on the NSC train. Had to wait ages for them. Kept walking but they never arrived. Gave up in the end and found out most had finished half an hour ahead. Great to get support from 7:18, Wolf Harmonica, ultra Dazzer, Guiness Runner, Greg, Simgulls flag, friends, family, Ollie, Len Seagull and Tall Nuts at the start.

I tried to keep an eye out for you, but didn't see you. Well done great running!

I'll balance it out by saying I had a shocker. Fine for the first 10, but something didn't feel right. I was gone by 16 and walked a bit of every mile after that. Couldn't get going again.

I offered you a ticket, window seat and everything. Think there was a bus service delaying things down the track.

Did have one tenuous Albion-related incident today. Grabbed a cup at the aid station just after half way, took a mouthful and said 'ewww it's not water is it ? I can't drink this shit', looked up and saw it was Paul Rogers that had handed me the cup.........he had a bit of a chuckle, he coached my lads football team last season so we know each other. I think AITC man that station ?

3:41:09 for me - was hoping for a sub-3:30 but was not to be today, legs cramped up heading towards Shoreham power station and never really recovered. Great atmosphere and support though plus perfect conditions, easily the best marathon I've run. Well done to everyone that ran today

I'm hoping for better next weekend. I would say I'll see you there, but I think we both know that's pretty unlikely - you're staying over after Charlton aren't you?

4:17:15 for me also had a bit of cramping around 21 miles managed it carefully till 23 miles then felt OK to carry on. As my first full marathon, can I say it was the most inspirational thing I will probably ever do. Thoroughly enjoyed

Lol, I saw him on Church road and I shouted Seagulls at him too. He seemed to take it in good spirits, the cheek of it though a palace sign in Brighton.

I also had some bloke who took great delight in shouting 'Burnley, Burnley' at me when he saw the flag (on two occasions)!

4.00.05 for me. Saw the Palace fan on New Church Road, second worst bit after cramping on 14 and 21. Nursed it home and well pleased with my effort. Pub after, bath as soon as in, red wine and cambozola cheese now.

Great to meet you guys before the start, definitely up for it again next year

Serious question - how difficult would it be to get from a literal zero to a marathon in 12 months? I have this feeling that I'm approaching my mid 30s, and I have - HAVE - to get fitter than I am (5"8 and 17 stone). I know that I'd like to do it for a specific charity (MIND, and possibly REMF if they'd have me), and I'm the sort of person that needs pushing - total lack of will power on my own but in a group I have a terrifying fear of letting people down!!!! Is it do able, and if so, how do I start?!? Is it just as easy as popping on a pair of trainers and opening the front door? I tried going for a run last year, but got laughed at by some kids in a car which knocked my confidence a bit (crawling along at 2mph in front of me yelling obscenities!!!).

Genuinely interested, absolutely terrified, but keen to hear if anyone can relate?!?

Not difficult, if you have the right attitude and training plan. When I started, I went from no running in July, to London Marathon start line the following April.

I did exactly what you said. Quick run around the block and over time the blocks got bigger and bigger and before I knew it I was up to 10 miles, then half marathons, and managed my first marathon in 4:36.

Ignore the haters - you'd be doing more they are from the relative comfort of their cars.

If you're up for it, here's the plan of attack:

Go to a running shop
Buy some decent running trainers
Get out there

Firstly thanks for the comments and following everyone. Yes it's doable but you do have to be dedicated to training.

A year and a quarter ago I started training for the Brighton 10K. I was fifteen and a half stone, mildly alcoholic and was regularly overtaken by pensioners on my first training runs. In fact my first run was a twenty minute mile and a half in old gym trainers that nearly finished me off. BUT - it gets better with every run if you do it regularly. Those first few runs do take bravery if you have confidence issues but I promise you will get better and better. Specific tips:

- join park run. It's a free 5k every Saturday morning. Enter as soon as you think you can get the distance. It's REALLY supportive and I guarantee you won't be the slowest.
- buy proper shoes. Run in Hove, The Jog Shop or Sweat Shop can all sort you out. They're pricey but 100% necessary if you're serious about marathon running
- enter a series of races building up the distance once you're comfortable with parkrun. I moved from 10k to 10 mile to half marathon very gradually. Don't worry about time, if you put the effort in you won't be the slowest.
- not sure where you live but if you are anywhere near the seafront train there. It's flat and there are no cars full of twunts to put you off. And they ARE idiots. People getting fit for the first time are the most inspiring and putting in the most effort.
- If you want to run for REMF they'll have you. I can put you in touch so PM me nearer the time
- post on the Official Running Thread. They are a great bunch of lads and very supportive. We all met up to encourage each other yesterday and have meet ups at other races too
