Over my almost 6 years here I must have learnt the names of some 300 more or less useless Brighton footballers, but this one I had not heard of before.

What kind of middle name, is 'Delpesh'!?

(I hope this clue hasn't given it away, for anyone still guessing)

For a while in the early 2000s, I wish I hadn't either.

I imagine there will be plenty who haven't heard of him: he didn't play many games for us, essentially because he was awful.

SPOILER BELOW...

Chat GPT says "JJ Gabriel is the son of Joe O'Cearuill, a retired professional footballer.

Joe O'Cearuill played as a defender and had a brief stint with Arsenal in 2006. However, there is no publicly available information indicating that Joe O'Cearuill played for Brighton & Hove Albion. Therefore, JJ Gabriel is not related to any current or former Brighton player."

Accurate I guess!

This sounds VERY unhealthy.

Gabriel’s career to date has been managed to the letter by his family with superstardom in mind. His dad, XXXXXXXXXXX, made the decision to change the family’s surname to Gabriel as it is viewed as a nod to the family’s religious beliefs as well as offering the United starlet a more brandable name.

The decision was also made to home school Gabriel so as to maximise his football, while he follows a very strict diet to enhance performance. He is, to all intents and purposes, already operating as a top professional, and made his England Under 15s debut last month.

Like a football based Homelander.

Thankfully for us there is also Wikipedia, which informs me Big Joe played a massive 8 (eight) matches for the Albion. In which, if I recall correctly, he was terrible in.....ooooh....about eight of them.

Played for us 10 times, we won 1 of those 10 games. While looking at his team mates I was reminded of another crap loan signing we had at the same time in Nick Ward from QPR (although he did actually score for us).

Joe (now we all know) was one of a sorry list of very bad players the Albion signed from Arsenal back in the old days. Hopefully we've learned the lesson.

Joe O'Cearuill
Graham Barrett
Chuba Akpom
Valur Gíslason
Gavin Hoyte

I will forgive them Paul Dickov, Mark Flatts and Steve Sidwell. I will never forgive them for Graham Barrett.

At one point we had two players on loan from Arsenal. Was J O’C one of them, or maybe Sidwell and Barrett?
We've had quite a few - across a very wide range of abilities....

Keown
Dickov
Flatts
Sidwell
Barrett
O'Cearuill
Hoyte
Akpom
Shaaban!
